Robin Williams called Billy before he passed and said 'you know I love you?' Billy's Wife said that was him saying good bye. I watch some of the things Billy has done over the years and each time I watch one, it's like saying hi again to an old friend. I hope wherever they put his statue it's a big yin.

I really love the way Lee Mack is looking at him... pure respect and adoration.

Billy is the one person in the world that could be diagnosed with parkinson's, tell it to "fuck off" and then to carry on enjoying his life. He would hate this title but he is one of the true saints of our time. He has dragged me through many horrible moments with his hilarious and most down to earth personality.

The term 'national treasure' has never applied to anyone on this planet as much as it does to the big yin. It almost doesnt do him justice. An icon of a human being let alone an entertainer.

I hate to see an illness affecting Billy. He's made people laugh and be entertained for decades, he deserves much more. I don't suppose anybody gets healthier as they get older. Sad.

Billy's tale of the guy at the disco trying to dance in his incontinence pants cracks me up to this day. Brilliant comedian.

I was lucky enough to see him at Hammersmith 4 or 5 years ago...maybe more and he did 3 hours, no break, no script and i was sore laughing....genius of a man who's humour is simple and honest, and we all recognise the people he talks about....total class and always one of us :)

My Dad knew him from the folk music scene and he actually stayed over at our house a few times. It was back when he used to drink so he and my dad would often be passed out on the sofa the next morning. Nothing like seeing him snoring in just his underwear to make a 6 year old's day. He and my father have kept in touch and I've had the pleasure of meeting him several times while my father spent time with him and he found my memories of the sofa and the underwear very funny. The Parkinsons diagnosis hit everyone hard but he remains a brave and funny man.

Watching his videos and listening to him got me through my stage 4 cancer battle with a smile and happy tears. That was 8 years ago and I still watch several of his videos every day.

Still windswept and interesting. I can't thank this man enough for all the genuniune soul rattling, belly shaking laughs, and showing the world an admirable perspective on literally everything - well deserved

Never in the history of comedy or indeed humanity has there ever been a greater man than Billy Connolly. I only hope he knows how he helped us all and how impressed we all are.

i remember having to stop watching one of his shows on VHS back in the day and go outside to breath. he has always cracked me up even watching those clips i had tears running down my face.

As an American I was lucky enough to be mesmerized at a young age when he was on a show called, "Head of the Class." I have loved Billy for over 30 years and could not be more delighted for him ❤

growing up in the 80's my parents would only let me stay up late 2 nights a year. Christmas eve and Comic Relief. Even though every kid loves Christmas, Comic relief was my favourite because I got to see Billy for the first time. That image of the kids all grabbing at his straggly hair in Ethiopia is still one of the most enduring images for famine relief in the world and one of my earliest memories. Definitely Scotland's jester. I would say he's the king but Sean Connery has that sown up

I could listen to Billy’s story’s all day every day , he could narrate anything and I would be completely in awe. He has this warmth about him and when he speaks and says anything it’s totally relatable. Cheers big yin

I have had the amazing good fortune. After many years as a professional Musician, I fell into becoming a BILLY CONNOLLY Lookalike. I developed into a Billy Connolly Tribute Act. I have had some of the best experiences of my life looking like Billy, especially in innocent incidents in the community....for example....outside a pub, somebody taking the piss...."Hey, that's Billy Connolly!" Me.."Oh, d'ye fuckin' think so??" It works every time and always leads to a few laughs"

I would of loved to of meet this amazing man of a comedian and actor. It's sad the fact that parkinsons disease has taken hold of him, he didn't seem all that too lively physically and slowed him down a fair bit, but on the inside I'm sure he really is all the more lively and joyful than he could ever of been before. The first ever movie I ever saw Billy Connolly in was The Muppets Treasure Island, a Jim Henson movie. Although his role in that movie was very short, I still remember it well. You'll always recognise Billy's iconic appearance with the big frizzy hippy-style hair and the beard.

I was tearing up the hole time & seeing some of my other favorite comics n actors showing respect was beautiful ps im not normally this soppy lol

I love Billy. by far the greatest comedian ever. I'd have thought that Michael Caine or Michael Parkinson would have been a better to present his award though considering how good mates they are.

Sad to see what Parkinsons has done to him, but still, for me, the greatest comedian ever! I have never laughed so hard and so much at anyone else. I think the physical actions he did to complement the vocal is something that's lost now. Comedians just stand there and say stuff...he acted out scenes, sometimes with multiple characters. A legend. Pissed they didn't show the performance section though. Guess I'll have to go check some out.

I have grown up listening to laughing uncontrollably ( sometimes I honestly thought I would die laughing with his well timed humour ) and loving Billy. Someone else said in the comments that whenever he is back with some new material it really does feel like you are catching up with an old and dear friend. To see him mature in nature and relax for want of a better word I am sure was all down to his lovely wife giving him a new perspective on past events and helping him come to terms and accept those things he had no power to change. To see Billy with this illness now is just so very cruel but as always Billy manages to take the subject, turn it on its head and make you laugh. God Bless you Billy, you are truly loved by the world over. I sometimes wish you should have been prime minister as that would have United this country like never before!
