Hey everybody.
In this video I restore a very rare multi tool. It was produced by Siemens-Schuckert a company that later was merged into SIEMENS as we know it today.
At first glance, the tool looks like a modern day Vaporizer. But of course its something else.
The multitool consits of several slotted, a triangle and a robertson screwdriver. The antique tool is all in all in an acceptable condition but the tool attachments are no longer usable. Reason enough for me to restore the vintage siemens schuckert tool.
I quickly disassemble the multifunctional tool and then begin the restoration by sandblasting the body parts. All parts are made of brass and I love brass. After sandblasting, I fine grind the cap and adapter on the lathe. This way I create a nice matte finish.
I only sand the main body very finely with scotch brite, so as not to damage the "Siemens Schuckert" lettering. I then renew the paint on the main body in a historically correct manner by japanning. This very elaborate process burns an asphalt/linseed oil/ turpentine mixture onto the brass tube. It takes me 5 hours per coat.
Lastly, the screwdriver attachments are restored. I straighten bent screwdrivers. Sand them clean and then harden all the parts. One tool attachment doesn't seem to be part of the set. I recreate it in a way so that it will seamlessly fit into the set.
Finally, i carefully reassemble everything and enjoy an outstanding and extremely rare tool.
This time I test a "LEO Lager" a beer which is brewed in Thailand. Its the first asian beer I try on my channel and I was pleasently surprised.

Thats it. I'm so fed up with these clickbaiters first fake rusting (moronically mostly plastic or diecast parts...) and then destroying brandnew things by burning or sawing in pieces just to "restore" them afterwards. Because of that, channels like NTR are so important and an absolute pleasure to watch.

7:52 the tip of a regular screwdriver is named the blade. Tip: If you put a piece of cork in both screwed end pieces, the blades will be protected from breakage and the tool is a lot less noisy.

@@NTRprojects ...and if you file a very slight negative angle to the very tip of each blade and parallel for a few mm more, they will grip the edges of screws *MUCH* better as they will bite a little bit into the base of the slot in the screw head. At the angle they are currently ground, they will tend to cam out.

I absolutely love how this came out!😍 One suggestion: Re-do the knurling on the handle. The brass would jump out, and you would restore the gripping power. Just a thought.

Gorgeous product, and fantastic process. I really admire the way you take care to do everything right. The only thing I would do different is to add a Phillips screw head, those were not too popular a century ago but they’re essential nowadays.

Japanning process was very interesting; I had only seen this before on Hand Tool Rescue. Your formula seems simpler, although the heating requires more steps to create the mirror-like finish. Beautiful.

Beautifully done. Not only did you do a magnificent restoration, but your videography is also fantastic. I felt just like I was in your shop with you and I like that. It was neat seeing the Siemans name. I've always liked working with Siemans equipment, but the stuff I worked with was gigantic Xray machines. Nice to see their level of precision in a small, hand held item.

So why isn't this tool more common? Not for just explicitly for sale, but because this looks like the perfect "fundamentals" project for this kind of work. You have to turn the rods to make the body, hollow it out, and internally thread it as well for ends. Knurling the ends, as well as the body for ergonomics. Tapping the screw for the top piece to be fixed, and making the screw itself. Milling and drilling the top piece for the tool bits, as well as filing a smooth angle for the bit to grip would be needed. Then you have to make all the tool bits from a steel rod like you did in this video, as well as properly heat-treating it. It seems like such a good project and gift that it would be more commonplace. It isn't "hard" for anyone with the appropriate knowledge, it is still an incredibly useful and beautiful tool that was handcrafted and can easily be passed down generations. It would still show the skill of the person crafting the tool, and with how precise mills and lathes are today, you can probably get that engineered down to like a thousandth of an inch.

To be fair, I'm aware I'm a year late to this, but while you were making a new attachment, I would have also made a philips bit or two, and maybe a hex and/or allen bit. Just to cover the bases and give it some modern use. Great job either way, love your vids.

The triangular and square tools are small scrapers or reamers. Used for adjusting bearing surfaces or removing small burrs. They should be sharp on the edges for use.
