A few people have shown an interest in a full breakdown of my chord melody arrangement of “Nuages”, so here it is! We go into some detail on the thinking behind arranging basic chord melodies like this. As well as covering some important bits of jazz vocabulary.
This is a surprisingly easy arrangement to get the hang of, partly due to the repetition of a few very similar ideas. Very satisfying to be able to play a solo piece as beautiful as this.

Absolutely beautiful. Thank you! Question: right hand technique is important so I’m wondering… what pick are you using?
@AlexFarranGuitar

Thank you matey! Here I was using a honey picks "bee-hive" which is basically a jazz 3 type of pick. Now I'm using the Dunlop H3 which is a favourite of mine too.

3:53 how is that a C7? If the next chord you do is an Aflat diminished and you simply went up a semitone, then the chord at 3:53 is a Gdim. no?
@AlexFarranGuitar
@AlexFarranGuitar Ай бұрын
Thanks for the question Clinton. This is where chord function comes in. It’s functioning as the V chord in the key of F, therefore we must name it with its purpose in mind. Any of these 3 note chords have many possible names.. we don’t ever choose what to call it arbitrarily.. there’s a system and logic to it and that comes totally down to chord function. 👍🏻

@@AlexFarranGuitar I see. That short phrase should just be considered a I to a V back to a I. Thanks for taking the time to answer. I appreciate that and enjoy your channel.
