Playing in a jam session with a group of guitar students is often not enjoyable...
Typically, most players fail to truly listen or feel the music, resulting in a chaotic mess. They play loudly, prioritizing their fingers over their ears.
Therefore, playing with a group of guitar students and having fun is a precious experience that should not be taken for granted.
And that's precisely what I experienced during the final evening of my recent retreat in Italy. It was the result of a week dedicated to focusing on how to make your music sound good.
Take a listen to Nuages, for instance. We didn't rehearse it, nor did we even learn the song beforehand. However, the participants learned to feel and listen, enabling me to play with them as if I were performing with my own band. They flawlessly followed my timing, dynamics, and energy. Pay close attention to how accurately they follow my lead.
When I play in a group, I expect it to feel like one organic unit.
I know that with the skills and knowledge you already have, you can create beautiful music. I prove it every day with my coaching group, and I especially prove it in my live retreats.
