Haulover Inlet is a man-made inlet located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA. It is situated along the Atlantic Ocean coast and connects the Intracoastal Waterway to the Atlantic Ocean. The inlet is an important navigational feature for boats and ships in the area, as it provides access to the open sea from the protected waters of Biscayne Bay and the Intracoastal Waterway.
Haulover Inlet is known for its strong currents and can be challenging to navigate, particularly during periods of rough weather or strong tidal flows. The inlet's name is derived from the historical practice of hauling small boats over the sandbar at this location before the inlet was artificially created to improve access to the ocean.

Retired in 2004, 3 SSNs, 1 Boomer. We made a liberty run to Ft Liquordale in 1980s. What a blast! Been in and out of P-Can numerous times.

It certainly isn't for everyone. And that speaks volumes to ANY of our armed service branches. They are a cut above when it comes to serving and dying for their nation. God willing they all stay safe and out of any major conflict. Although with the way the world is headed right now. I'm afraid the inevitable will happen sooner than we may all expect.

I am with you richardb. I have a pretty solid case of claustrophobia and to be in a sub with no hope of seeing the outside I'd probably go nutty. God Bless all U.S. Navy submariners. They deserve all the great food provided on these boats.

Oh does this bring back great and fond memories. I served as an independent duty hospital corpsman on a fast attack out of Palm Harbor. Of course, you only tend to remember the good times, but I loved it and would go back out in a heartbeat. Thanks so much for the video... it brought a tear to my wife's eyes! GO NAVY... My son served 6 years as a member of the "Blue Crew" aboard the USS Alabama SSBN-731. I takes a special sailor to operate these vessels. Solid nerve and character are the requirement. I was very impressed by the boat and crew.

Wow I never got to see this, from OUTSIDE the boat! We loved Ft Lauderdale / Port Everglades for a port call. There was a small bar right next to the pier, and the facility had 900 amps of shore power! Everybody got liberty, even the Nukes.!

@jasonrichards5854 I tried to reply, but it kept taking me to the top of the page. It's a Virginia class. The quickest way I can tell is by the running lights on the side of the sail. Virginia class stick out. Seawolf class are behind plexiglass and flush with the rest of the sail.

Very nice to watch. I'm sure the American navy knows it's doing, but I'd like to know a bit more about the radar rotating right in front of two crewmen on top of the conning tower. Is it actually emitting, and if so, how are the two men protected ?

It is blocked in the part of the sweep where it points at the other masts - and the people. All radars are capable of this.

The Cooper River in Charleston S.C. Is tougher in and out. I was Manuvering Watch Helmsman on an east coast 637 class boat. With a good team of lookouts, quartermasters, nav techs, sonormen, Officer of the Deck topside, you can make it look easy. Getting into the Island of Bermuda was the toughest in and out. We got so good, I would listen to the tracking party calculate our position to center of path and make minor course corrections before they had to tell the bridge we were too far off center and then the O.O.D. of course ordered me right or left. F. That the plot station was right next to me, pop off the headset on that side and stay ahead of the wind and currents. Sure miss being on a boat sometimes.

Father career Navy, half of it on diesel/electric subs., after spending many years of my life in terrible Navy housing, poor medical facilities, dirty bases, and very seldom seeing my father I did the smart thing and joined the Air Force, after Vietnam it was like a regular job, great housing, great medical facilities and home every night with the wife.

Pilots have local knowledge about depths, dangers, interfacing with civilian shipping, and port requirements, that submarine crew would appreciate, and cannot be expected to know, so not surprising at all.

Right at the entrance to the port is a US Navy 'research lab' inside the park along with the US Coast Guard station. That was the buildings in the background on the other side of the channel
