“The possibility of resuming underground nuclear testing has long loomed over the post-Cold War world. But only now do those fears seem worryingly close to being realized amid the growing animosity among the world powers, the construction at testing grounds and the development of a new generation of nuclear weapons,” writes W.J. Hennigan. A return to an earlier era of nuclear testing will bring its own consequences: “The United States and the Soviet Union might have narrowly avoided mutual destruction, but there was a nuclear war.” In the wake of testing, marginalized communities were at the mercy of the bombs’ destruction, causing displacement on their homelands.

Refuge by Terry Tempest Williams is a heartbreaking portrait of the generational impact of nuclear testing. Downwinders in New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Arizona have no support now that the Radiation Exposure and Compensation act just sunsetted in June.

A couple of years ago a UK news outlet published stats about the numbers of people affected by nuclear testing within the US. I never saw those stats again. I think it would be worthwhile to talk about the hundreds of thousands of people affected by test within the US as well.

We (Bangladeshi) students are currently peacefully protesting against quota, but Student League an organization of the government ambushed us.Nearly two hundred people were injured and many were killed in the attack. At this time we need you very much because the journalists of our country are on the side of the government. They have no news on this issue. They have not promoting about on this issue.Seeking freedom has now become a crime for us. #Savebangladeshistudent #QuotaReformProtest #nomorequotha #protectstudents #bangladeshquothamovement #saveBangladeshstudents

Excuse me, but western countries are not the only ones which have tested nuclear weapons. And it is Russia which has been actively threatening to use them for years.

Who's gonna tell them that nuclear testing resulted in an excess leukemia death rate of a total of three people. Three. And thyroid cancer has a fatality rate of less than ten percent. And it's not something easily passed down to offspring, breastfed or not. - Fallout from Nuclear weapons tests and cancer risks published by The American Scientist

This is the perfect impersonation of the disregard that the US government (and other governments) had and have towards these victims. "Who cares about three people? Who cares to ask for an independent investigation? Who cares about habitat destruction and disease? Trauma? We just needed our big boom-boom that is a catastrophe if ever used anyways! We just need to tell the victims that all is good and that it is totally fine their relatives deceased, and it is all fine."

These people will definitely be very happy that someone disagrees with their medical charts because of one bad faith "report"? American "scientific" publications are the most morally bankrupt money hungry organisations out there. They will twist words until whatever they need you to believe is safe, "is safe"
