The paint evaporated because it’s a thin layer. Nuclear bombs are unimaginably bright, but not for that long. During the flash, a layer is vaporised off of anything in line of sight, but the flash is over quickly enough that things far enough away will only lose a thin layer. Of course anything flammable will be ignited instantly. Objects close enough to the bomb can be vaporised entirely.

It was set up behind a wall or something similar. It's not "super secret advanced zoom capabilities" lmao.

Well the camera is between the car and the bomb as it has to get the "burning" side, which means it has to be at least on the same side of the bomb to get the picture. What they probably do is have a earth work embankment covering the back and sides of the camera to deflect most of the blast and heat. You can see the blast wave on the ground at around 300 degree angle (on the first car) from the camera which suggests that it is not a long range shot as the circle of the blast would probably obscure the picture before it hits the car.

The cameras are inside structually reinforced boxes. The boxes are on top of 10-18 feet strong steel poles that have an 8 inch diameter and are set into a concrete base. The poles also have additional anchor wires and together with the low aerodynamic drag the shockwave simply passes it, maybe only giving it a slight shake.
