"In fear of sounding redundant of how 97% of these pre-album release descriptions always come off, I won't try to describe how our new album You Will Never Be One Of Us sounds. What I will tell you is that the same care and the same attention went into this album as our previous albums Unsilent Death and Abandon All Life, and our new album sounds as inspired as either of those two full length recordings.
"Our new record has some new twists and turns that are built off the foundation we laid with our previous albums, as well as a lot of familiarity that you've come to expect from NAILS. You Will Never Be One Of Us is for us, for our fans, and for anybody else who feels disgusted and fed-up with social-climbing impostors, trying to leech off of anything they've ever dedicated themselves to. I can say with 110% certainty: We will not let you down."
"'You Will Never Be One Of Us' is the title track and also the opening track from our new album. I can't deal with trying to write some clever, witty, or whatever type of descriptive garbage filled with barbs about how our band is awesome and other bands suck (which is absolute peasant bullshit), so I'll cut to the chase. This is to date, our favorite song. It's a song which represents almost every side of NAILS. When it comes time to announce a record, it's really difficult for us to pick the first song to let the world hear because any NAILS record to date is more about the LP as a whole and not 1 song really represents the full LP, but I can say with no hesitation, this song represents this LP and we're confident that we should be releasing this song first. 'You Will Never Be One Of Us' is about about the pain and the pride that goes into being involved in hardcore/punk/metal unconditionally...being a lifer. It's a knife to the throat of the people who come and liter their bullshit and impose on everyone for their own selfish agenda. It's for everyone who dedicates themselves to their craft...their music...their passion...whatever the fuck it is, and seeing someone come along and attach themselves to what you do/love and abuse it, with no regard or respect for it. This song is not for NAILS, but for all of US.
"As far as the video goes, we needed something that represented us and wasn't fake. The world really doesn't need another 'band playing in a warehouse' music video, but again, without being condescending with some passively aggressive description and putting other videos down, we believe this video not only stands out as far as quality and expression, but represents us in the best possible way that a music video could. It conveys the emotions that you might experience from us if you come to one of our shows. This video shows what we are, doing what we do in this band. No pretense, no overblown image, no bullshit, no gimmicks, no artificial/cheap attention grab. This video IS NAILS. Fucking period.

I feel where he’s coming from honestly, I wanted to make a hardcore punk band specifically for people to mosh to therefore it would only ever be live and we made these 2 minuet max songs that maybe had a little riff to start t off then a hard drop to the fastest we could fucking play and our friends would go nuts falling over the amps and shit, it was fun as hell

This really answered my drawback, thank you! There are some fascinating cut-off dates on this video but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There is some validity however Ill take hold opinion till I look into it further. Good video , thanks and we want extra! I just found this band couple days ago and holy fuck I fell in love. Every time I listen to it I want to hulk through buildings... some days it brings out raw emotion of pain and anger where I tear up like a pussy and want to hurt someone which itself I find a great release especially when working out I do extra 20 lbs on deadlifts with this shit. Can't wait for their new album this year!

James Matthews the "making of" part is cool. I just found their pretentious attitude slightly contrary to the idea, or at least what I thought the idea of the album is/was. I was a huge fan of the band, and this record. This series kind of hurt it for me. They seemed hyper elitist at times. That's all.

I love the energy of this band. But I must say a couple things: 1) Nails seem to throw under the bus bands who write longer songs, since according to them they wait 5 or 12 minutes to get to the "good" parts. I like the clean or softer parts from progressive bands, because the best progressive bands use clean and softer parts to contrast (and thereby accentuate) the heavier parts. Don't get me wrong, I understand that Nails wants to do all-out aggression, and I respect that very much---I think I'm a little bit older than some of these guys, and I don't think I'd be alive without Slayer's pummeling aggression getting me through my childhood. 2) The "no bullshit"s. What is "bullshit"? Longer songs? Dynamics? Nails is very immediate and in your face, and I like that. But I contend that what they think is "bullshit" might simply be the expression of other bands. Converge (obviously Kurt Ballou produces Nails) doesn't go flat-out all the time--they've written albums where things slow down, there's clean tone, longer droning depressive songs). Maybe I'm just taking issue with the number of times other bands' "bullshit" was mentioned :P

First, it came in a time in which a lot of hardcore and metal related music was moving to unnecesary "proggy" cotnraptions. Second, it`s short songs that have a lot of structure and that mix hardcore and punk sensibilities with a death metal soundscape. Obviously they`re not the first to do this , but they have compressed it and refined it almost to perfection

It´s funny how these wannabe "tough" bands talk about "boring parts in other genres" and about cutting the bullshit like they´re the new cool kids on the block but they´re really just a Napalm Death copy cat. The fat one must have thought "dudes, lets make a band like Napalm Death, say our influences come from metal and punk, sell it like it´s something fresh and ignore the existence of a thousand bands that did this years before us" - the bald dude "yeah, cool idea, Jabba."

Nails sounds a fair distance away from oldschool grindcore like ND- if anything i would say their biggest influences are swedish death (like Entombed) and modern hardcore. comparing the two artists, ND generally makes far less use of stuff like guitar feedback, HM-2 pedal abuse, and breakdowns; also i find it funny you're talking shit about kurt lol

are most bands not really a bit of a copy of previous bands that came before them of roughly the same genre... I believe it may be called "influence".... Anyway, point us in the direction of your band or anything you've contributed to pot that makes us understand that your negativity is actually coming from a place that understands the work that goes into producing an album therefore actually giving real insight and weight to your words instead of just dismissive, pompous opinions..... so! how can we hear your tunes then?
