Thanks for this Chris. I can't wait for the next bunch of videos. I'm just waiting for the snow to melt around here to get out in the field. Of course, today's snowstorm is dumping another 20 cm, so the wait will be longer than previously expected. I'm stuck with a Garrett AT Max for now. I can easily find little chunks of lead with it, practically slivers, so I should be able to see any gold more than 1/4 gram at least a few cm down. But I'm not sure how it's going to handle the ground up north. We'll see.

Thanks for your interest. In the next week or two, I will be putting up a bunch of videos similar to this one. Look for the following new videos soon: My African gold rush adventure; The geology of placer deposits; How to find gold with a dry washer; Basic Prospecting skills; How to sake your own mining claim and All about Nevada Turquoise. These are all presentations I give to various clubs and I decided to do them up as KZfaq videos. After that I am doing one on processing hard rock gold ores - taking a large sample all the way from ore rocks to a final gold button.

All these people who find a pound or two, I think my dowsing rods are malfunctioning. Then there are the lying types who panned a half ounce off the top of the dredge tailings beside the highway one afternoon. Is that so? Quite a story. I've been running stuff at about a half gram a bank yard, and then I find out it's 750 fine 😕. I appreciate the advice on where to look for that easy hard cash though sir. A fortune for the trouble of stooping down! With a little luck, I'll be a hundredaire!

Hi Chris, I’m new to this and am finding prospecting quite interesting. I’ve just ordered your book, contacted our local prospecting group in Utah and am researching detectors. I am aware of the Goldbug 2 and Goldmonster 1000 and am most likely going to get the Goldmonster. However, during my research I came across the QZ 80 made by Vogel (no relation to me that I know of). It’s pretty pricey but seems to be among the most superior products, based on the hyped advertising, which is all I can find about it. Have you had any experience with it, heard of it or know of anyone who has?

I’m wondering if I’m throwing nuggets out? I’m in highly mineralized New Mexico mountains and I’m exhausted from digging so many holes only to find junk or rocks. I’ve brought home a ridiculous amount of hot rocks but lately I’ve been tossing all rocks - many look like that clump you showed. But they are more like a pumice rock - mostly yellow but some reddish. I’ve crushed some and got nothing but I’m new to everything. So my panning might be all off too. I know I’m in gold bearing area but my geology is terrible and I’m a slow learner...😖

Chris, greetings from Australia. I have an inquiry that I'm hoping you don't mind helping me with. What can you tell me of those strange looking detectors that are nothing like the conventional metal detector?. They're rectangular in shape, have a long "nose" type antennae at one end, with some having two, and also sporting a pair of what we used to call "rabbit ears", like was used for early TV sets.. They have what looks like a post handle at the bottom, and the unit is coupled to an electronic box that's clipped to your belt. They range in price from a few hundred dollars, up to well over a thousand dollars. They claim to scan an area of 1500 square metres and can detect Gold down to 30 metres. Also the front panel of the hand held unit has separate LED indication for not only Gold and Silver, but for precious gems and diamonds as well. Supposedly good at locating undergroud structures, as might apply to Archaeology. AKS is one such brand. Apparently to find Gold, or whatever else, you need to walk along with the unit pointing straight down, more or less in line with your right leg if you're right handed and vice versa. My curiosity was piqued, so I thought that as a professional, you may have come across it and can tell me if it's a good or not. It can be found on eBay, but I'm a little skeptical as to all of its claims. It sounds to me like a potable version of ground penetrating radar, but I'm no expert. But finding precious gems, including diamonds, Hmm!. Many thanks for sharing all your videos. They're very informative, and you've convinced me to go for the Gold Bug Pro, as an entry level detector. Thank you in advance, cheers...

I'm a very poor mind reader to know exactly what brands and models you are thinking of, but Long range detectors simply dont work. I talk about them in my video on dowsing. See: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zpp7ltp0vtWbn30.html They are electronic dowsing systems and just dont work.

@@ChrisRalph Thank you Chris for your feedback, When you get a spare moment look them up on eBay, but I'll not bother with them, as I much prefer the tried and true results from conventional metal detectors. Cheers, and thanks again for your prompt reply...

Any advice for determining whether or not an area has already been searched to death by other prospectors? How would one know whether it is a popular spot or not? Cheers.
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph Жыл бұрын
If you go a number of times and almost always see other prospectors there - its popular. Signs of other prospectors past digging - holes, screening piles and other work clearly done more recently than the old days when the site was originally worked tell you other folks have been there. When you are metal detecting a near total lack of trash also says its been well worked as the old timers often dropped trash all over.

@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph 2 жыл бұрын
Half ounce nuggets are quite rare. A half ounce coin is too large. gold sounds the same as lead. there is no recognizable difference between the sound of metals other than Iron as opposed to non-iron. So gold, aluminum, brass, copper, lead, zinc and many other metals which are not iron or iron alloys all sound the same.

With your thumbnail pic, I took a 🔎 to it sideways & upside down and I can confirm that faces, people, & a hillside can all be, somehow seen embedded within the crevices of the large golden nugget. My guess is beings that obviously pre-date us, on a much smaller scale, became scorched by a higher intelligence. Bubbling even seems to have set in. If true, and yes the odds *would* be great, then would there be any added advantage knowing the true nature of the rock?
