In this video, we’re going to talk about the number one cause of chronic fatigue in people over 50.
The most common cause of fatigue for people over 50 years of age is low stomach acidity.
The purpose of stomach acid is to break down proteins, absorb minerals, break down vitamins, and kill microbes.
Both types of anemia are related to low stomach acid.
Low levels of iron and B12-even subclinical-can cause low energy and fatigue. If you consume protein and cannot digest it, you are also going to get tired. This is why low stomach acidity is closely related to fatigue.
Signs of low stomach acid may include:
• Anemia
• Gerd
• Indigestion
• Bloating
• allergies
• SIBO
• Gallstones
As you get older, your stomach acidity-particularly hydrochloric acid (HCL)-goes down. Up to 40% of postmenopausal women have low stomach acidity.
There’s another condition called atrophic gastritis that is characterized by atrophy in certain parts of the stomach caused by low stomach acidity. This typically occurs if you’re over 60.
A large percentage of those with idiopathic anemia (unknown cause) also have significantly low stomach acidity.
Aside from age, causes of low stomach acid can include:
• Hypothyroidism
• Low sodium levels
• Low potassium levels
• Low iodine
• Low zinc
• Taking antacids
The best remedy for low stomach acidity is to take betaine hydrochloride.
Don’t use betaine hydrochloride if you have an ulcer-it can cause a burning sensation and other issues.

I had lots of health issues, thyroiditis, anemia, hair falling out, narcolepsy and a rare kidney surgery (only 300 reported worldwide) Survival rate is 5 years and I am in my 8th year. So I only have 1 kidney but am healed. I take 0 medications. Here's how... I fasted for a week with mineral and Vit B infused bone broth, and 2 avacados a day. Then went raw food, 70% plant based, keto diet (keeping all carbs at 20grams daily for the first year) with fresh green juice daily. ONLY ORGANIC. *Grocery store foods are POISONED with carrageenan that causes arthritis, anti-freeze is in your ice cream, MSG is a neuroTOXIN. If it says "enriched with iron" it means they've added actual (FE iii) METAL flakes. Plus, all processed foods are now IRRADIATED with xrays and cooked over 112' & pasteurized so there is NO NUTRITION. If they say ascorbic acid is added...that is synthetic and is NOT complete vitamin C and it causes kidney stones. Google & You Tube "Raw Food Recipes" . I make pizza, tacos, chocolates, snicker bars, turtles, cheezecake, burgers, chips, milk, ice cream, soda.. all the foods we have been programmed to eat, but I eat the PLANT version! ALL FROM PLANTS! Dr. Berg has great recipes! Do research, Delicious ! also, Do NOT drink TAP water...there are warnings on the municipal water reports saying NOT to drink it. Use a super filter!...I don't even need glasses anymore because my eyes healed to 20/20 vision and my skin is beautiful for the first time in my life...@ 58 yrs old! Wrinkles disappear. I want to thank DR BERG for all his wonderful videos. Oh, and Covid 19 can only attach to an aminopeptidase, ACE2 receptor (these are active when your body has been abused with sugar),,, so back up, put the donut down and nobody will get hurt... lol

This makes so much sense. I've been dealing with chronic fatigue and anemia for much of my life and I have hashimoto's, but this is the first time that I've ever heard that it's all related to low stomach acid. I was also prescribed and antacid a long time ago, which now I can see only exacerbated the situation. Thank you, I feel like I've been given a early Christmas gift!!

@@julivictoria4501 It won't if you are willing to do some work. I started with providing my body plenty of minerals through foot soaks - Epsom Salts, sea salt and vinegar. Soak once a day if you can. Getting minerals into the body is important and I find using the skin to absorb minerals is much faster and easier than taking supplements. I then started building up missing nutrients through supplements and better food choices. I did intermittent fasting and dirty keto. I switched to lots of healthy fats - lard, butter, avocado, nuts, seeds, etc. Then I worked on my hormones. That was a game changer once my body was healthy. For me GABA, Choline, and inositol have been amazing at balancing my hormones. Dr. Berg has videos on all these topics. It took two years but I am far healthier now than I was in my youth. Pay attention to your body and work with it. This worked even with my 90 yo parents so it is never too late to regain your health. Blessings.

With fatigue, you have unexplained, persistent, and relapsing exhaustion. It's similar to how you feel when you have the flu or have missed a lot of sleep. If you have chronic fatigue, or systemic exertion intolerance disease, you may wake in the morning feeling as though you've not slept.👍

@KAH Z You could have a hidden infection. If supplements make you feel worse, is it possible that when you take them, the pathogen is feeding off them? Have you tried intermittent fasting? That might help weaken any pathogens and strengthen your immune system to fight off the infection. Check out Dr. Berg's videos and see if they help. I "had" Hashimoto's but I knew it was related to trip to SE Asia and I suspected an infection all along. Blood tests were normal but my body wasn't feeling normal. I went with thyroid hormones for years and finally decided to tackle it on my own. Lots of research and supplements followed, with some relief. Intermittent fasting seemed to be the key for me along with reducing sugar. I hope you find a solution. Blessings.

Amazing Philippines ....Are you taking both things at once or are you just taking the apple cider vinegar now. I just want to know which option might be best for me, I'm lactose intolerant and I've just started taking the apple cider and lemon juice mixed with warm water, that and cutting down on the amount of carbs I eat does seem to be helping my digestive problems to a degree. It's been better than it was anyway but I still have very low energy levels so I'd like to know if there's anything else I can try to help heal my gut. Also do you know if the HCL tablets or capsules have lactose in them ?, ..... because many tablets do contain lactose.

I just started taking Methyl B-12/Methyl Folate and Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P-5-P) Lozenges to help with fatigue. I'm hoping it helps. I was in a bike accident 20 years ago where I went head first through the rear window of a parked car and ended up in the front seat. I broke my neck, shoulder, ribs, missing muscle mass but by the grace of God I made a full recovery. Now at 52 I'm finding myself getting tired after an easy day at work. I have health insurance but I don't trust the doctors to help me as the last time I went to the doctor he told me I needed a new pillow. He didn't bother to x-ray my neck or back.

L Glutamine!! Lets talk about that and leaky gut.... low stomach acid goes hand in hand!! One common symptom of CFIDS which is really a form of leaky gut is feeling ok for a short period of time after eating.

Do you think L glutamin helps for those who have intestinal permaability(aka: Leaky gut)? How much would you take or did you take? As I remember dr Berg recommends 10g on empty stomach.

@@futureflow8645 I have been self medicating with LG for the past three months and it has been helping to heal my leaky gut and IBS symptoms. Its amazing. I started with 40 gm per day split into 3 doses the biggest dose i wake up at 5am to take then go back to sleep as it gives it time to absorb. I also take zinc carnatine, and I make meat broth with pig feet to get the gelatin and add it to soups and stews and drink it neat. I drink Kefir with my food too. the L glutamine and the gelatin are the most important though. Good luck

Hey Dr.Berg, I have a couple of questions regarding Keto! So the first one is, is say for example you are eating 3,000 calories on Keto, would you be able to build more muscle and gain more strength on Keto as opposed to a regular diet with carbohydrates, in terms of taking both diets with the same amount of protein and calories for building muscle and strength, because you would assume that going on Keto, which is the healthier diet would help you achieve more strength and muscle. Second question is, is that when you go on Keto, how often do you have to drink water with Pink Himalayan Salt? Would sprinkling some on your eggs in the morning, then doing 1 in a cup of water for lunch, and 1 for dinner be enough? Or do I need to take in water with Pink Himalayan Salt in between those meals? And also when I'm fasting say for like 20 hours do I need to drink water with Pink Himalayan Salt or can it just be water? Because I know the benefits of the fast would be much more profound without vitamins, but I would assume it would be the same with minerals, because when I would do 20 hour or 24 hour fasts, I would only drink water, but I wasn't on Keto, so maybe I held in more water and salt, and also when I'm exercising like for example playing Tennis or working out on Keto, do I need to bring Pink Himalayan Salt to Tennis or working out? Or is water suffice?

Low salt intake = GERD. Stomach acid is hydrochloric acid with pH of 1-1.2 very acidic. When pH rises that's when GERD occurs not the other way around. We require plenty of chlorine daily intake of sodium chloride (salt). Eat salt don't take antacids or PPI drugs these only provide temporarily relief like with almost every other drug

I heard, well watched a programme, where they said if you toast frozen bread without defrosting it the starch turns to resistant starch. I also watched another programme where they said if you reheat starchy foods (in the microwave I think) the starch becomes resistant as well. Not sure if all or only some of the starch in both cases becomes resistant. It would be good to know.

My mate and I had luck with the celery juice fad, actually. But the high nitrogen in grocery store celery triggers my migraine. But I was on the road to better digestion. My magnesium intake will always be key. We have citrus trees and my best remedy for digestive crashes now is eating an unripe kumquat or the zest from my lemons and limes. Commercial enzyme products trigger my migraine. Vinegar of any kind is migraine hell for me.
