About the same for me until I got a city run which were all flat and salted roads. Then three years later I left Ohio and didn't have to deal with it anymore. And yes BLESS those drivers for sure.

Weird pattern I noticed surely just a coinkidink. All of the 18 wheelers that wiped out had California regulation tandems. In bad weather you have to slide your tandems back and put as much weight on your drives as possible. If your trailer is heavier then your drives you aren't getting good traction and if you start losing control it's way more difficult to regain it. The further back your tandems the more stable you'll be.

I live close to this area. A lot of the problem with this storm was our area had warm temperatures and rain prior to the winter storm. They couldn't pretreat the roads like they normally do. We also had sleet and freezing rain prior to it changing to snow. Underneath all the snow was ice. In those conditions it doesnt matter what kind of vehicle or tires you have. I stay inside and let those who need to be out have the roads.

This is why I feel drivers shouldn't be forced or allowed to drive in the worst conditions. A 24hr ban should be in effect for all vehicles in severe conditions because one accident will block you for hours and caused backups which keep the road crews from making the roads drivable.

Lots of Pros, all of them anticipating the situation and acting accordingly. I can understand a lot of private drivers in the ditch. I cannot understand any semi driver jack-knifing. Surprise, surprise its winter time, the roads can be wet slippery and icy, there can be whiteouts, there can be strong winds, no single of these situation can surprise a Pro, only fools drive at these conditions as they were on a1/4-mile dragstrip. NO LOAD is more important than health and life.

Really, most truck drivers I see on the road have trouble staying between the lines in perfect weather. Too many on their phones and not paying attention and driving way too fast. Truckers were a different breed 40 years ago, they were considered the White Knights of the highways. Now they are poorly trained and a danger to many on the road.

I will say this you drive in weather like this in the video but just don't get in a hurry. But something went terribly wrong with several several of the motorist? The Amazon driver or contract driver something went terribly wrong with that vehicle? Probably was following to close and suddenly applied brakes instantly jack knifing? This would definitely not be the time to be driving with the limited visibility and worsening road conditions and the unknowns about whether the road will be open because of vehicles blocking the travel lanes of the roadway.

Drivers hauling Amazon trailers are some of the worst semi drivers out there. Not so much on their skill but their recklessness and desire to do ANYTHING to make the max amount of pay possible (which I think Amazon only pays you for the number of trailers you haul per day instead of cents per mile or a flat cost of the load). I've talked to novice drivers who excuse the behavior as "they need to make money," but you won't be making money long if you drive unsafe like them!
@ronnieterry9275
@ronnieterry9275 2 жыл бұрын
@@snappleshibes26 I agree they have this mind set that they are going to get rich pulling Amazon. They aren't going to get rich with Amazon. The only advantage about Amazon is that the weight is usually 20,000 or less? But the per mile is low. To make anything in trucking you must get a decent per mile rate. If you don't you are wearing out tires and using lots of fuel for your very hard work.

Mandatory automatic chains, forcing companies to install these $6,000 (sounds like a lot, but it really isn't) push button, from the cab, operated chains on all, all weather trucking outfits, will significantly reduce these accidents, along with the vehicle being placed at a governed speed of 45 mph (or chain manufacturer's speed rating, whichever is less). I bet, with today's technology, there's even a way for the chains to automatically engage when conditions require their use. Or start requiring all companies that have had a certain number of jackknifed rigs in snow/ice install them (like amazon prime).
