These are probably things that you already know by now, but in case you don't, here are some little curiosities related to this drama: this drama was written by the screenwriter Park Ji-eun, the same one who wrote the drama Crash Landing on You, which who seems to have played with it a bit by putting some references. And in fact in this regard we can identify, already in this episode, the actors Ko Kyu-pil and Lim Chul-soo as they stalk Baek Hyun-woo while he gets drunk with his friend; these two were also present in Crash Landing on You in the role of the protagonist's employees. And still speaking of this, as we saw at the opening of the episode, we saw the wedding of the protagonists Baek Hyun-woo and Hong Hae-in: this wedding follows the real wedding of the actors Hyun-bin and Hong Hae-in in an almost identical way Son Ye-jin, the protagonists of Crash Landing on You. Many probably don't remember, but Kim Soo-hyun himself made a cameo in Crash Landing on You. Before the release of Queen of Tears, Crash Landing on You it was the most watched drama in the history of TVN, but was subsequently beaten by Queen of Tears, marking another incredible success for screenwriter Park Ji-eun. During the episode Baek Hyun-woo, now depressed due to the life he leads, visits a therapist who is played by Oh Jung-se: the actor in question had acted alongside Kim Soo-hyun in It's Okay to Not Be Okay in the role of the older brother suffering from autism and it was very nice and fun to see them together again after a long time and also, as mentioned, in the role of a therapist given that, in that drama, Kim Soo-hyun played the nurse in a psychiatric clinic. The scene where a drunk Hyun-woo holds his arms out to his chest like they're chicken wings while he says that he's cute when he's drunk has become quite a popular meme related to this drama. Having said that, the first episode, as well as the following few, tends to confuse the viewer a bit given that, as you have seen, they have an extremely strong tragicomic streak, where the male protagonist suffers absurd, almost ridiculous situations that have made him unhappy (well not just for that, but you'll soon see), showcasing Kim Soo-hyun's comedic skills, which are often not showcased as much unlike the dramatic ones he's known for. I noticed that several people are confused by this tone and by the subsequent decisions that Hyun-woo makes towards Hae-in in the first part, accusing him of being a bad person. I, on the other hand, have always laughed a lot at all the comic scenes regarding this and I haven't taken them so seriously as to brand the protagonist as if he were a villain, probably also because my country has a rather strong history with the tragicomic genre, but I don't know. ... Be that as it may, the first episode is not really an expression of what will follow it, in fact I believe that the series gets into gear starting from the second episode, where the scenario that we will face begins to take shape better. This drama is undoubtedly one of the best of this year, even if many have criticized the "thriller" aspects that will develop later, but I don't agree because the drama in question develops organically and nothing comes by chance, it's all well outlined, fully respecting all the stylistic features of the genre to which it belongs, without claiming to reinvent the wheel, as they say, on the contrary, but leaning on all the typical tropes and doing it as best as possible. And although many believe that the success of the drama lies in the two lead actors, with their incredible chemistry, which supports everything, I think that credit should also be given to all the rest of the supporting cast and the good writing of their characters and their stories that have added elements that make you love them and care about their stories. In short, I believe that the success is more than deserved, even if I personally don't consider it the drama of the year (a title that, to date at least, I give to Marry my Husband).
