Clarissa Hardman wears a hearing aid. She now has a special stethoscope to allow her to follow her dreams and care for her patients.

This is really great. Im a nursing student with a hearing impairment, ive been lucky to be given a grant to give me a stethoscope i can actually hear from. I think ill have to look more into the one Clarissa has.

The one she has is called Thinklabs One it's quite pricy but it's perfect for people who use hearing aids. You can get a device with it that will stream the sound directly into the hearing aid wirelessly. It's quite the investment but well worth it.

Shelzy S Did you end up buying it? I'm in my last semester and am having to get invisible in the canal hearing aids. Cannot use a normal stethoscope. Looking at the thinklabs option but don't like the idea of having to use bulky headphones!

@@katiebonds7714 I got a grant through the university I go to for the ThinkLabs stethoscope and it's honestly amazing. But yes I agree, the headphones are he downfall. It doesn't have Bluetooth so it cannot connect to a streamer and then to hearing aids. I got to play with a few electronic ones in the end this was the best one I got to play with. Sound quality is amazing. Ive dropped it a few times and it's pretty hardy. I have over the ear headphones with it, I keep it all in a case with my name and number at he nurses station where I work. It's very unlikely I need it. It's more to double check but I run, grab and go. You get good at making little jokes with patients about it when you need it. But all in all I've gone from a specialist telling me to change my profession to being able to hear heart rate and rhythm and not only that, the ease of manual blood pressure.

@@MrPaulosophyI’m hard of hearing myself and I have the thinklabs stethoscope but I don’t think there’s a Bluetooth option. Correct me if I’m wrong or if there’s a way for that option. I’m currently using wires similar to aux and FM system to attach to the hearing aids and into the stethoscope.

I am also a nursing student. I do wear hearing aid in my left ear. It is always a struggle to hear sounds whlist wearing hearing aid. I hope and i will beome a nusre. ❤❤❤

I know this was posted awhile ago. I'm motivated by Carissa's story. I am hard of hearing and pursuing a career in nursing myself. I was wondering if anyone knew what brand headphones she is using? Thank you for sharing!

I know this is an old post but I am a hearing impaired nurse & wear hearing aids. It has its challenges but I don’t regret my decision to pursue nursing, still going strong & plan to keep at it.

The brand of the headphone doesn't matter, but in my opinion that model of headphone too bulky to be put on neck... i have this cheaper headphones that's sleek, and especially lightweight a clone of airpods max

How do I get the headphone set you have I ordered the stethescope but they sent me the classic ear buds I still have to change out my hearing aides at bedside or in the home health setting. It's such an annoyance and embarrassment. It takes away from pt. Care as you most often attention gets directed to your hearing loss and not what's going on with the pt.

I have a friend that would benefit from This technology, she is a nurse practitioner and having trouble finding the right stethoscope BT with her hearing aid. Where would I find more information on this tech or where can it be bought.. thanks in advance

Hi Steve. She received that stethoscope by applying for a grant through the Smile and Nod Project. Hope that helps!
