As a health-care professional (HCP) since the past two plus decades now, it really isn't anything to write home about, far from glamorous as they'd make you think, pay is a complete mess as one can expect individuals with far less credentials/license/experience to earn much more or to get promoted into management as a result of SEXISM/ageism/nepotism/discrimination/racism, and the pay is stagnant as one can forget any career ladder/growth opportunities. It is just another hustle and I know that many are scared to say this, but I speak for many and why many are leaving the field and shortages will only worsen - mark my words.

Hey Onyeka, thank you for your insights! I’m sitting in a nice office working an admin job in a biotech company. My job relates mainly to the database management side. I also Had exp in public health and in pharmacy. The monotonous and non-autonomy characteristics of my office job is soul-devouring. So I’m thinking to start nursing school. But i’m scared i’ll make the wrong decision. Do you think that nurses are underpaid in Canada? Plus , do you have a lot of autonomy in your job?

I'm new here in ur channel & I'm from the Philippines and currently enrolled in Healthcare Services course, may i ask how much would be the salary of a certified healthcare professionals especially in the nursing home cares/clinics or a healthcare facilities? Do employers seek for more experienced carers or would it be possible if you only have less than a year work experience?

@@OnyekaAsamakaThe reason US nurses earn more is that US Hospitals are private and for profit, whereas Canadian hospitals are public and health care is universal; equal care for each resident. In the US you have to buy your insurance or copay through your employer. Technically there are no "Private hospitals in Canada"

And quit/walked altogether as it isn't what you think in the west trust me... Do anything else such as lab tech, pharmacy, doc, PA (avoid NP via nursing route trust me). After 20+ years in it with not much to show for it but endless road-blocks/discrimination, I'm over it. I also personally know many over the years who experienced similarly and many others who simply are fed-up and want-out. Thank me later.
