Hey Cassie! Awesome video! I've been an Ortho Nurse for 23 years and I still learned from this! The tip with the properties list is great! I'm going to set it up just like this next time I work! I definitely use that information below the patient lists a lot! It's a quick short cut for everything! I always use it to check the patient's PRNs like pain meds given so you can also see how often this patient is getting his Dilaudid! Lol! I love the dramatic pause on your face when you get "that Nurse" that asks so many questions when they can just look at Epic! Keep up with these tips! Good for new and seasoned nurses!

as a new nurse, i'm struggling so much with charting assessments especially if pts have wounds to be charted. I wonder if other nurses are copying/pasting some of the assessment sections because they can finish it in 1-3 minutes, and also wonder if they're doing a head to toe assessment - listening to lung, heart sounds, measuring and looking at wounds, and documenting all of it. I feel there is not enough time for all of that! I've been told i need to speed it up but it feels impossible to go that fast. 😮‍💨

Omg my babies I wish I could give all Of you a hug! DON’T let these nurses stress you out. One of my biggest pet peeves is anyone who forgets their struggle when they first began. I’ve been a nurse for 6 years and still take the time to reflect on how hard of a journey this is! What I will say is try and be more focused on your assessments. For example during report if your patient came in for a hip knee surgery definitely hit those pulses , and look at the surgical site while you’re in there. When you do your med pass that’s when you can listen to the lungs, check the skin (maybe even check with the tech to see if they’re going to bathe the pt and you can look at their skin/help them then) and you can chart MOST of your assessment and always come back later and fill in the blanks! That helped me in the beginning. You can’t do it all at once, but breaking it up definitely helps! Also I will do a video on how to give effective report! Once you find your voice in nursing as well, which I know takes time you def have to tell these nurse “check the chart” there are many details that you will not be told in report, and you should be reading your chart. Unfortunately a lot of nurses don’t plan on reading the chart, and expect you to do it for them in report. The job is 24 hours and not everything can be done on your shift. I will quickly let someone know you can check the chart for that info. 🙃 whew, I’m getting upset for you guys. Also I apologize that this comment got pushed down so far I’m just seeing it!

Thank you for this video! I was certified in Epic from an out patient setting. One of my supervisors asked if I would like to help in the hospital. I was place there to help out one day a week and it grew! It is a challenging amazing opportunity except Epic for the hospital is different than Epic for outpatient setting! There are not many videos on KZfaq for Epic for the in patient setting. Could you please make as many videos as you can on using Epic in the inpatient (hospital) setting. I think the more knowledgeable and the quicker I can move around in Epic, that will be a large part of winning this battle. I can’t build momentum unless I really have a solid knowledge of Epic. Thank you so much.

Girl, thanks. I had just accepted a Residency program for MedSurg Telemetry unit in a Level II Trauma hospital. I got my BSN last 2013 (ancient!!), NO RN experience. I am freakin terrified, especially with the probation period. I have a bit of ADHD (undiagnosed) and I am worried that I'll get overwhelmed and not learn enough to be worth keeping. Your video was so down to earth. I was able to follow you, and I felt a lot of my old learnings came back. It made me feel, "I can do it!" especially with all these effective simple tools that you are sharing with us. I don't even know if my hospital is gonna be using EPIC, but I want to start somewhere, anywhere. Never charted via PC, mostly old school paper. Aside from the paperwork techniques, I love the little comments you had about various small things that require critical thinking, common sense, and moments where you show your thought processes. You're a very solid resource for people like me. I will look back to this someday with fondness.

Thank you very much for this video! I wrote down plenty of notes from it. I am a first year nursing student and an on-call CNA2 from Oregon. There are plenty of things, as we all know, that just don't get covered in the nursing program. Time management and the flow of a nurse's shift is one of them. We show up to clinical and we don't have any orientation on Cerner, so we have to figure it out ourselves or ask for help. We also do clinical from 1500-2300, which is really awkward because it is in the middle of the day nurse's shift and, frankly, there is no time or interest for them to train us. We have to be very proactive if we want to learn anything. Sometimes we have awesome nurses who actively try to teach us as we go through the shift, but then they are off at 1900. Many times we feel unwanted, in the way, and flat out ignored. I really appreciate that a seasoned nurse such as yourself took the time to walk us through, hour by hour, what a good nursing shift should look like. I dislike being thrown into clinical with no orientation, and I have scoured the internet looking for a video like yours. I will pass it on to my classmates.

EPIC is a million times harder than Surgi-net that I was using through Cerner at my last job. I feel like I could never be as fast charting on my patients in PACU as I was before. I may quit and go back to the other hospital because everything about EPIC is harder. It takes several more steps and slows me down.

The hospital I'm at uses Epic, and I want to learn how to navigate Epic ASAP and Track Board that they use in the ED (which looks completely different from the Epic layout elsewhere in the hospital!) It looks so daunting, and I really want to learn it before I go back so that I'm prepared and can focus on the patients. I can't find an Epic ASAP tutorial video from a nurse's perspective though. I apologize youtube had this in my spam section for approval 😭 so go to your patient list tab and hit print in the upper right hand corner. There will be two options and I want to say it’s patient list or current list. A window will pop open (make sure you hit print preview) and you can choose which columns you want to show up, adjust the size of the text, and adjust the size of the columns. Once you’ve done that put a printed copy of my epic sheet into the printer face down and columns to the right (test how your printer prints to see which way you should put the EPIC assessment sheet in) and hit print! Your patient list should fit 5 patients right about the columns I created ☺️ depending on how much info is in the columns to smaller text so the length of the columns are to long ☺️

It’s not my vertical nursing sheet, it’s actually nursing.com. I have no affiliation with them I just enjoyed that resource. They give you a packet of free ones to choose from. If you’re having issues accessing it I would try and reach out to them? I’m not sure what the hold up could be. You could also Google an find sheets that are more easily accessible and relate to you! ☺️

I have been a nurse for over 13 years but just started traveling January 2022. How do I get to the link for your assessment sheet? Any tips for being new travel nurse?
@cassiekaygee

It’s listed in the description box, and I would def say don’t put to much pressure on yourself. The job is the same everywhere you go so just give yourself some time to adjust to the new environment 💕

I posted the links in the description box. One is my personal EPIC printout and the second one is through another website. It’s a packet of 35 and you can scroll and find which one you prefer ☺️

Where do you document MEWS in epic, I seem not to find it as I used to in CERNER, also is there a place to document blood glucose
@cassiekaygee
@cassiekaygee Жыл бұрын
I used to add it under my patient list section where I have the tele icon? I was able to document from there. Glucose automatically goes to the results section (where labs are listed) once it transfers over from the glucometer

@@cassiekaygee thank you, I will look it that. Our elbow support epic people told us that there are different types of epic app and that could be the reason why we are unable to do certain things

Hello, I'm a new grad and I'm struggling with understanding Active Orders in EPIC. can you please explain that? Thank you
@cassiekaygee
@cassiekaygee 8 ай бұрын
I apologize for the late reply! So many of my comments were hidden. Congrats on becoming a nurse love :) When you say understanding active orders do you mean which ones to go by? Sometimes they do forget to clean up orders, especially if the pt has been transferred. You will eventually know which ones pertain to you depending on your unit. I hope I answered you question at least a little bit lol Please let me know if I totally misunderstood lol
