I’m so sorry you had a hard day! Do not listen to that voice telling you that you’re not doing enough. You don’t have to have all the answers all the time. Dexter is managing being a toddler and navigating building communication skills and it’s a learning process for the both of you. I think you are doing such an amazing job. Thank you for showing the realistic journey that not everything is rainbows and sunshine all the time but what matters is growth and positivity that comes from those situations. I, too, have these types of days with my 4 y/o ASD boy. I have no one to turn to during the rough days so I turn to channels like yours. I very much appreciate your positive videos as they help me recuperate my emotions so I can think more clearly in the present moment. Thank you for posting such an authentic video of your hardships while sharing what you've learned in the process. I love your channel so much. My almost 4 year old is a lot like Dexter and I just relate a lot to what you say. We had our son diagnosed at 3 as well. It’s so nice to hear you put much of my experience into words. You’re doing a wonderful job! Meltdown days are the worst but as you said they are isolated! So much joy to be had on this journey.

You are an amazing mother and you are doing a phenomenal job with Dexter! I personally love that you have a positive approach towards what he will be able to achieve. I was recently given the advice that I should not put limitations on what my son (who is autistic and non verbal) will be able to accomplish because there is no way of really knowing what the future will bring. I do not think there is anything wrong with being both realistic and hopeful:)

So many of us in different boats navigating different regions of the same ocean. There are truly no tools to help... only time will tell where we end up and it is truly almost UNBEARABLE at times. Strength, patience and forgiveness. Stay strong and get back up when the waves knock you about. Be patient with yourself first and foremost, and with your child. Forgive yourself. These are the lessons I am learning during my autism journey in my son and my 3rd year. Maybe it sounds selfish. Maybe it is. I am his primary caregiver and I need to be at my best to give him my best. I am so sorry to see you hurting. You are not alone.

My daughter has aspergers these outbursts happen frequently for us. The worst thing about it can be the reactions you get from members of the public, in that moment you can feel alone in your struggles but your not alone stay strong x

We have recently noticed our son (3, prediagnosis) is getting frustrated more and more when we don't immediately understand his non-verbal communication (he's a hand-leader/physical communication type). I so understand your tears and frustration and sadness - and Dexter's too. I see it in my son, and I see your words in myself as well. It can be incredibly overwhelming to attempt to communicate with our children when they don't use the forms of communications that we are used to. And for them, as well - it must be so incredibly difficult and frustrating trying to communicate when people don't understand you. Sending hugs your way - we all have those days. x

I really understand how that could be although my son could communicate more. The behaviour I used to be up against and he was strong and he would pull out my hair and punch me. Don’t listen to people that don’t help you or are negative towards you . Remember there are other people out there that care which Is why most people follow you. Some days they just reach the limit and it’s wise to let them watch tv 📺. The challenges are difficult but some are just amazing . Take care X

Ignore all judgmental comments, unless they are in this situation themselves they can't comment. Your doing a great job. My 3 year old is still yet to be diagnosed but we struggle with communication daily and it's frustrating for us and for them but we try and do our best for them. Don't ever think of yourself as a failure your doing an amazing job xx

U made me break down tears because I totally feel wat ur feeling it’s very hard as a mom of 4 kiddos all under 5 years and my oldest was diagnosed with Trisomy18 wich affects her speech and overall development still does not walk and my 4 year old who was diagnosed with Austim as to seeing other family members with kids her age they talk and play with other they interact as a typical 4 year and hear I am at Bday parties taking my daughter out of the party before they start singing the happy bday song because she will start cryin her head off the looks of ppl who don’t understand her all eyes on us it’s very hard specially wen we feel so isolated as mamas and now I think my almost 2year is getting evaluated for autism aswell because she still does not say one word no mom or dad or bottle so it’s tough bt as long as we do all that we can and focus on the great and thrivin things our kiddos do we got this mama !!

Hi I'm autistic too and watching this video helped me offer dealing mechanisms to my partner when I'm having a meltdown and what do do after. I would have been easily if you summarised your points at the end so I could have seen them together, I had to go back through the video and pause it to write each thing down that you wrote on your video. It's just a thought if anyone else would have liked to write them down too. I don't have a great memory so if I write them down I can reread until hopefully they will sink in. Thank you I really liked the video I think your methods are transferable to adults with autism too.

Sorry you are struggling! I feel the same way sometimes. Given that Dexter spells and reads so well, could he eventually learn to write his thoughts to you? That would be wonderful.

I have a 2 year old and we have days like that all the time! My son was non verbal until 21 months and I took away all the screen time. It was very hard for him and me for about a week, but he started to communicate and be interested in his surroundings and other people within a couple of weeks, he also stopped the hand movements, we still have a long way to go but he’s in speech therapy now. But taking away ipad made a world of difference for him. I’m always trying to read research articles about what can help. Hugs and prayers your way! You are such a great mom!

I'm just curious, how do you know that your son is reading since he is nonverbal? My son is nonverbal and I see him flip through pages in a book but because he does not say words how would I know if he is actually reading?
