Not everything has to be gourmet and for those of us on a more realistic budget there are always alternatives. Bagged grated parmesan keeps well in the freezer and a small tin of evaporated milk or UHT cream will last forever in your pantry and provides the creamy base with no discernible difference in flavour over fresh. Use social media cooking for inspiration and adjust to your own tastes and budget.

This is sooo tasty! Truly delicious. I’m a pretty decent cook so I just eyed my measurements and it turned out great. I have written down what I used if anyone wants to try it. I hope it’s not against the rules to post that here. I also used mini farfalle because it’s all I had. Busin!! -1lb ground beef -1 tsp each: garlic powder, oregano, thyme, parsley, smoked paprika, salt, pepper -Half an onion -2 cloves garlic -2 tbsp tomato paste -1 tbsp apple cider vinegar -1 cup broth (maybe 3/4 cup to start) -3/4 cup heavy cream -1 lb cooked pasta (reserve some of the water when you strain) -1/2 cup or so of cheese … I used Parmesan bc I didn’t have pecorino Romano. Still good - red pepper flakes, optional to sprinkle on EDIT: if you’re following a keto or low carb lifestyle, this is delicious over sautéed cabbage! I like it even more than with pasta. 👌

I had gotten mushroom in anticipation of making mushroom barley burgers. But, after going to five stores over a couple of days, I was unable to find two main ingredients. Not wanting the shrooms to go bad, I sliced and sautéed them, along with the shallot I had sitting around, added garlic, a can of diced tomatoes I’d picked up for whatever reason, threw in a cupful of dried small pasta, a bit of water, and simmered covered for ten mins. I topped with lots of nooch. I would have added parsley, if I liked parsley, for a touch of green. Perfect use-up-before-it-goes-bad/what’s-hanging-out-in-my-pantry dinner for a few nights.

Just some salt and fresh lemon juice is such a common Italian approach for salad and it’s absolutely divine. Simplicity for the win.
@Awf00L
@Awf00L 3 ай бұрын
Vinegar and olive oil are definitely more common than lemon juice, it still works though, what doesn't work in Italy is grating pecorino on salad and mixing salad and pasta in a single dish, you're gonna mix the seasonings and the tastes, that's something nobody would do here especially with a main course of pasta, we might put salad/vegetables in a single dish with a second course of meat and fish maybe, still separating them, she's literally throwing salad into the pasta.

@@Awf00L Damn pasta with a side of salad on the same plate are literally the most common dish where I'm from. Ain't no way people got time to be separating the meal up like that when all those dishes gotta get washed by hand. I can't imagine washing twenty dishes just because the salad can't be served on the same plate as the pasta.

People who don't know how to cook will sometimes only make things they're comfortable with. If they don't have the ingredients for their comfortable recipes, then they go out and buy them. I was this way for a while until I got more comfortable in the kitchen. Now I do throw things together once or twice a week.

Cooking bloggers' reality isn't average human's reality. They try to be relatable with phrases like "I cook this when I'm lazy" or "this recipe is from simple ingredients that you always have at home" and fail hard.

Sometimes the most simple is most yummy! A couple months ago, my boyfriend suggested crab and spaghetti. So I made it. I added marinara to his, and a little extra oil in mine to compensate not using sauce, and it was soooo simple but felt soooo fauncy. It was the imitation crab in small package. Cooked crab I think in butter.

Yeah... That's just a fancier version of military-style macaroni, that's a staple on post Soviet territories. The soviet military-style macaroni dish was created as poor man's bolognese, so yeah. On the more important note, quit smashing dozens of countries with different cultures from different parts of the world into a homogeneous mass called "post-soviet territories". The occupation ended three decades ago, most of them have kept evolving their separate ways.
