Either of these units would great. Bought myself an MG-30 recently because it's small and convenient. For highest quality recording I have a dedicated audio interface, and amp and cab sims in my DAW, but the MG-30 definitely wins for everyday playing and the inspiration that comes from trying new things without the barrier of much time and effort to set up.

Another great demo song! Your style is so recognizable. Fun comparison. I think I lean towards the Valeton. However, both of them sound excellent and it's very difficult to tell them apart or from the real amps in a mix like I usually say 😁 Either one of these units would make someone very happy on Christmas morning. Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎸👍🎄

I have the MG-30, here are my thoughts. First the problems. To be honest I am having trouble getting a good tone out of it despite quite a few hours of tweaking (25+ hours so far). The EQ does not affect that many frequency bands, even when using the global EQ and EQ effect together, making it harder to dial in the right frequencies and dial out the harsh frequencies. It would be nice if the EQ had more frequency bands. Also the included IRs are not the best, of course you can put on better IRs, but it's a chore since then they often don't match the amp well. When using it as a dry audio interface, you must make a completely dry patch with no fx on it, just setting the output signal to dry means you will still be monitoring the tone from the nux but not outputting it, which I find confusing/annoying. There aren't that many effects that it comes with, not a lot of cool lo-fi effects or interesting things like reverse reverb, just the basics mostly. The gain staging between patches can be hard to dial in and the output gain must be lowered significantly to avoid clipping -- funnily i find that the unit even clips itself sometimes, overall there is too much gain on a lot of different settings that must be lowered and balanced. There is also a certain harshness to it that I can't put a finger on, that is proving hard to dial out. Now Good points about the unit: software and interface is fairly easy to learn and intuitive. Only took hour and a half to learn everything on both the unit and the Windows software, update the firmware, and install computer drivers. Also I see the potential of this unit as some of the amp simulations do sound very close to real. Finally the unit comes with an additional footswitch which is excellent value, keep this in mind when comparing to the valeton.

NUX MG30 might have less amps but they are a lot more faithful to the real thing, especially when it comes to high gain amps. Valeton is great too but has that PODish processed sound which I don't really like. NUX can be used for reamping DI tracks in your DAW as well which is awesome.

Hey Leo - I have the MG30 and it is the only FX-processor I can easily dial in on the fly without using external software. It may not sound as good as my Helix LT but for the price it is very good - the inbuilt tuner is superior to the helix imo. I wish you a great christmas.

Thank you Leo for your top tier videos; really incredible! I am hoping that Nux will introduce their own "light" version of the MG30. My setup is my modeling & effects pedals are at waist height, on top of my QSC powered speaker. So I have no use for a built-in expression pedal. I’ve come close to buying an HX Stomp, but the bloated number of amps, cabs & effects is not for me. I’d be happy with even 10 amps and a couple dozen effects. So I like what Nux has chosen to focus on. The Valeton has too much on the one hand, (too many amps & effects) and too little on the other hand. (No mic choices and adjustments, and the oddity of not having a simple on-off switch) Happy holidays to you and your family!

The quality of your comparissons and reviews is just amazing. Thank you so much for all the effort and detailed information. Now, since they are both quite similar in many aspects, I will order the NUX MG-30 tomorrow, basically because here in my country the Valeton LT is $120 more expensive than the NUX, which does have expression pedal. Leo, Can you please confirm if the USB port in the MG-30 can be used as an output port? I would like to use the footswitches of the unit to control BIAS FX software (via MIDI).

both are very limited vs a bit more expensive hardware and at lot less expensive plugins. However I prefer the MG30 only for its JC800 (my go to amp) simulation which I find excellent (once you find the sweet spot in the global EQ). I don't have the Valeton but I do have the HX stomp and TH-U Overloud, and in the context of the jcm the best "equivalent" in terms of tone and feel is with the MG30. but again that is only my opinion.

@LeoGibsonGtr According to the GP-200LT user manual for fw 1.2.1 the IR is 44k/1024 bit WAV. On another note - Which would you recommend for someone looking to potentially replace an audio interface with either of those..? I guess that would be a matter of RTL/round trip latency, something usually attributed to the quality of the (Windows) drivers. Gtr > GP200LT/MG30 > usbC > computer (ASIO) > DAW > usbC > back > monitors

I have this nux mg 30 that I use with studio monitors. I wanted to play more "amp" style and so I was thinking of buying a frfr speaker (headrush type)... but for the same price I can get a boss katana. so the question is: better the nux with a frfr or the katana (and stop using the nux)?
@LeoGibsonGtr
@LeoGibsonGtr 7 ай бұрын
Hi Riccardo, interesting question! I typically use my studio monitors or I go directly into the mixer, therefore I don't use FRFR speaker at home. I would say that the solution NUX+FRFR is more flexible, as you can change one device or the other in the case of need (for instance upgrading). With the Katana way, you have an all in one solution... so, it depends.... Thank you!

Grazie!!!

Buy non of these units unless you are born deaf. They will impress you for the time you test them in a store, but at home they will fail to satisfy you, will fail to to inspire you, to motivate you and fail to make you love playing guitar.
