Hey guys in this video we check out the NUX Steel Singer Drive Pedal. This thing is supposed to sound like a Dumble Overdrive/Steel Singer Amp. Does it? I don't know, I have never played one. I had one of those white ash Harley Benton telecasters and for the 90 euro I paid for it. It was just so good including the fret work, just needed final polish and the pickups were not the best but decent pickups dont cost much.

I have that black and gold Paisley Harley Benton Telecaster. I've run it through with "Klon" imitation style Overdrive. I think the pickups in it sound absolutely incredible guitars that cost $140. And yes his playing is awesome

I’d say that nails the dumble tone - for both us guitar players and for those who aren’t initiated - it still sounds incredible

I got this pedal today. It's awesome ! Creamy , smooth, aggressive if you want to. It sounds exactly like this video and this video was the reason I bought it. With a 115ms delay and my Victory V40 deluxe I'm in Robert Ford territory without breaking the bank. Thanks man. Keep up the good work.

This is not a version of the Vertex Dumble pedal (which is widely regarded to not be worth it) but of the Free The Tone Dumble pedal (which is great but also not really worth it as this pedal exists now)

Took delivery of my Plexi Crunch this afternoon. Adjusted the settings, plugged it in and launched first into Queen's "Save Me" and Boston's "Cool the Engines". Not only was the Plexi Crunch perfect for approximating both tones at one time, but it was my honor to have ordered it through you, Rich. This one definitely has a sweet blues driver/tube screamer vibe to it that easily reminds me of the cats you mentioned. Your own kick-a** playing does much to help.

tried to preorder it from Thomann a week ago, but there was alittle bita hassle and money was short and I wasnt 100% convinced..., ordered the 200 € Vertex, canceled it( luckily) just an hour ago I was checking the Way Huge Overrated one, meewh, then I checked Thomann again and just ordered it! both Jonathan Cordys and your playing on KZfaq made me convinced I had to have one! Doesnt sound like my main pedal Simble or Tomsline Dumbler or the Dude, then again Afred Dumble built many amps sounding different! the common factor seems to be the roundness of the high strings/notes which I love being also a bit of a jazz enthusiast...CHEERS! K

It sounds great. I believe that this pedal, like the Way Huge Overrated Special (the JB pedal) is based on the Steel String Singer, which is the lower gain and brighter Dumble model. Most Dumble pedals are trying for the Overdrive Special sound, which is the Dumble that Robben Ford and John Mayer have, and the sound the legendary Zendrive pedal (which Robben also uses) is shooting for.

Great playing Rich, the pedal sounds really nice and will more than likely be added to my setup in the near future, a good low price and I would think well made as I’ve got and had a few NUX pedals, Tape Core Deluxe is a fantastic pedal, Mod Core Deluxe I sold as didn’t really need it but for the money did a really good job of all the modulation FX you could need, and had the Komp Core Deluxe compressor pedal, work well did the job but I got rid as I decided to stop using a compressor pedal in my rig, the Komp Core was a good compressor pedal and I bought as it had a Blend control which many compressor pedals don’t have. Anyway for about £35 new delivered to the UK a Steel Singer Drive sounds nice and cheap enough for me.

I just bought this pedal today, playing through a Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Sounds great! FYI, Robben Ford’s appearance (and skills) are the result of spending more time playing guitar than in the gym. And I’m backin it!

This pedal nails the Robben Ford tone down really well. On my Strat it does take out a bit of the bottom end and spank that I like from my guitar so I am working on dialing that in. But either way I think this pedal adds a cool flavor to the spice rack

My Robben Ford story. Saw him around the time of the first Blue Line album at the Caravan of Dreams in Fort Worth, TX. A few minutes before it was time for him to start, he walks out to the edge of the stage and starts throwing out little packages of foam ear plugs and says "Here, you're going to need these." Funny, and classy both.

One issue that crops up in most demos like this is the use of the Gain control. I may have missed it somewhere in the beginning of the commentary but it is not a lot of use knowing where the pedal Gain is set without knowing how the guitar volume is also set. Your description of how you would use it, pedal gain up full and guitar volume used to control dirt, is great but it would have been useful at the outset to have mentioned where your guitar level was set throughout the tests. And of course we should bear in mind that different guitars and pickups all have different max levels too which would of course affect drive of the pedal. That said, great demo of how it sounds, it was still very useful. It is certainly one on my short list and I don't buy many pedals, certainly none of the "boutique" £100 plus jobs which have £2-£3 worth of cheap everyday components in them in the same old circuit configurations (but with very pretty graphics on them). This one at least is priced very fairly for what it takes to produce and market.

Great demo man. Liked and subbed! I was looking at a pedal pcb forum about this pedal and they discussed that the circuit is essentially a tube screamer with some components like the Jfets replaced with another component. All that aside though I think this pedal sounds great and I’ll be getting one. When I do I’ll use your link man for the sweet demo.

Rich ‘riff-o-matic’ is at it again . Good tones . My issue is getting a pedal to sound good at reasonable volume levels on a solid state amp when I don’t have a ton of money to spend on a tube amp . Thanks Rich those NUx pedals sound nice .

Super introduction! The only shadow that covers my joy is that everybody feels it cumpulsory these days to use teles to introduce the new products. Especially Dumble is famous of having a smooth distorted sound instead of sharp ones. Tele is in fashion today and dumble sound, too, but I have the feeling they produce a special but possibly not typical sound.

Recently picked one of these up. It is a really good pedal for $50.00. With that said though, when I compare it (although different platform of pedal) the Greer Lightspeed on my same board, the NUX has way less bandwidth and is nowhere near as open sounding. Also, while not really a fair comparison, when compared to my Dumbloid ODS pedal, it has nowhere near the frequency response and range. If played by itself and you don't switch between other broad range pedals, it sounds good and chewy and can be addictive.

Robben Ford, I had his signature Guitar, the Fender Esprit, before it became the Robben Ford model, Sold is stupidly, now worth a fortune. When you review these Pedals, can you put through a Boss Katana as well as a Valve Amp, You are a damn good player Dude.

After buying so many pedals to find a good raspy tone , I found out that what I should have bought , was a tube amp instead . Solid state cant do that with pedals , they say .

John Mayer and Santana both owned Dumbles at some point in time. Hey Rich, you're of German ancestry cuz Bischoff is a German name. I bought this pedal and it just sounds amazing but 2 pedals I bought recently were this one the NUX and the MXR Timmy ... O yeah and I used to use the JHS Angry Charlie for more hi gain stuff but I also recently bought the MXR FOD which to my ears sounds amazing and I have never been a fan of MXR drive pedals but the Timmy and the FOD really sound amazing. Sounds "Good for a Overdrive", but falls short on Dumble... But is close enough to want one...I have one... A Dumble has much more depth in Bass lining with a pinch more echo and Rhaspiness...

They must have been better 2 years ago when you made this video. The one I got earlier today was full on high gain distortion with the gain knob all the way down. The gain knob just worked like an additional volume knob when turned up. Worst sounding pedal I've ever purchased, nothing resembling Dumble tone from my unit!

you're a really great player, I'm a singer songwriter who stopped playing acoustic & elect. guitar , writing for the last 20 years on the most basic instrument I could find ,a three string elec.Dulcimer guitar Eric Holland made 2 for me( gotta give him credit) Gamechanger Bigsby and plus pedal -stereo with octoverb and ping-pong and analog delay with mod . -So I have built this rig to sound like church and it does ,I'd like to add overdrive but I've always been baffled by them . I want just a taste of tonal overdrive , I have one of these coming tomorrow, if it docent work out can you suggest anything else ? like give up -lol thx
