I like how all the genderbent personalities are faithful to the original, except for Ice Queen, because Ice King doesnt see himself as a bumbling old man, but someone who is beautiful and cunning.

Who would’ve thought this fun one off would become so important later.

This was the first episode I ever saw because my roommate was watching it. He was laughing his ass off at everything because they were all genderbent, and I hadn't seen the original characters at all. Everything seemed normal to me. But that ending with it being a *fan fiction* immediately sold me on watching the show. That level of self-awareness in a kids show was unheard of for me.

I don't know why I always found marceline being Marshal Lee hilarious.

Some background: Natasha Allegri, a former Adventure time fan artist (who later went to make Bee and Puppycat) came up with the concept of the genderbent AU, someone saw her art and made this episode. After this she joins the AT team and is put in charge of the whole F&C stuff, going on to make some comics before focusing on her own cartoon and returning for the F&C spin off, also known as season 12. She also made really pretty bubbleline fanart that also gets referenced in later seasons.

In the original 'Fionna & Cake' comics by Natasha Allegri (character artist for for Adventure Time at the time, later series creator of Bee and Puppycat) the counterpart of Princess Bubblegum was 'Prince Blowpop'. Allegri did a lot of Adventure Time fan art while working for the show, look up her bubbline art some time.

Storyline analysis: When Fionna tells Cake to take off the Ice Queen's crown to "not catch her crazy," implications the Ice King and the Ice Queen have parallels to each other. Production notes: This episode was titled "Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake." As good as you are at predicting stuff I was so hyped for the end, because no way anyone could predict Ice King made it all up. I wanted to see that raw emotion and feeling at the twist, and it was glorious... I will say no more to avoid spoilers, of which yeah avoid the offbrand... be a whole new kind of no nut November for ya avoiding it lol, but it will be worth it.

Ok. One thing I just realized that made the fanfic reveal a lot funnier is that Fiona is 13, and yet Ice King wrote her so that she loves him. But, as we know from the season 2 finale, he isn't like that at all so I just like to think he wasn't even thinking about that when he wrote it and he just did it by accident. Also, on a more serious note, I feel like this episode even further shows how much he confuses love with companionship in general, with him writing Fiona and Cake to be in love with him, even though we know that Ice King considers Finn and Jake friends.

Honestly - A Series of Unfortunate Events. Its a creative cute series, Its fun, but honestly, Its worth watching for Neil Patrick Harris alone, he IS the show!
