Sorry it is later than I'd hoped for but here it is, my take on rebuilding the Stoeger X20 S, also featuring taking apart a Mk6 BSA Meteor to get a free spring, shortening an airgun spring and chronograph testing.

I just serviced my air rifle with your video thanks you mate !! It was very easy except the trigger I didn’t understand how to assembly it and took me almost 2 hours to figure out how to do it haha .. ps the Hellenic rifle G3A3 was much much easier when I served my country haha

Thank you. I had recently bought a stoeger s4000e from ebay. It is the Canadian version and says 495fps. I want to upgrade it to the USA specs. I now feel comfortable at tearing it apart.

Good work 🙂👍. Please take no offense, just a suggestion for your woodclamp, the woodclamp I have, has a bolt to screw up and down, makes adjustments to put in pins much easier. Thought that might help you. Also for the piston seal, after heating it up, put it face down and push the piston on top of it at an angle and it will pop right on 🙂👍.

Thank you, much appreciated. All tips and hints gratefully received. I do have a sash clamp and it would have made life a lot easier if only the thread wasn't so short. I must remember to get another one and then build a permanent airgun spring compressor seeing as I'm doing more and more of them, much better than my current make do and mend method. As you say the fine adjustment from a thread will make a world of difference. Great suggestion with the piston seal, I will try that next time. All the best, Nick 👍🏻.

Just wanted to say good job on the video Nick. I'm sure you know but don't be surprised if the point of impact changes while the new breach seel beds in. As I said I'm sure you already aware it can happen. All the best. Jim

Thanks Jim, much appreciated. Good point, I'll be zeroing it for the owner so I will keep checking it for them every couple of months. I'd wager it will have more shots put through it when I range test it than they will fire in a year, but yes better safe than sorry.

very nice mate . yes indeed was running just a bit hot . i find those pellets are quite generous in there head size always a tight fit in all my guns . i think that is going to do ok . probably just a bit high on the scale for me i like a spring gun at around 10.5 to 11 velocity definitely does not mean accuracy that’s for sure . however what a great use of old parts my friend. looking forward to see how that shoots
@nickvending9688

Thanks Paul, much appreciated 👍🏻. I prefer 10.5-11 too, certainly for target use. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, should be a good gun now for not a lot of expense - but only the targets will determine that 🤞.

I did like the video and left a 👍, If you empty a tub of plumbers mate into your pellet trap Nick it will stop the ricochets and quieten it no end , never dries either so lasts for years 🙂.

You can buy springs seals gas ram systems from custom air seals in australia in fact you can buy a gas ram system to fit that stoeger off them and many other rifles

@nickvending9688 11 ай бұрын
Thank you, but I'm not going to bother doing a gas ram conversion on it. As I keep saying in the videos, money was tight on this build.

Moly grease only i love watching you backyard blokes try to repair something when you dont have a clue what you are doing and why might pay if you learnt how to measure a spring
@nickvending9688
@nickvending9688 11 ай бұрын
Thanks Bob. Well my back yard job gave good results in the end. I know how to measure a spring, I figured it would help folks more if I showed what happens when you put the spring in whole first. I have tried moly grease before, it went sticky and the guns lost power. So I tried wheel bearing grease and it worked just fine.

did you put the piston weight back in or leave it out?

@@nickvending9688 did it make any difference?
@nickvending9688
@nickvending9688 Жыл бұрын
@@dorianspence1335 I'll be honest, I did it all in one go so I couldn't tell you if it was the plastic top hat or the different spring that made any difference. However the gun went from I think from memory it was under 8ftlb to mid 10ftlb, so improvements in refinement were balanced by the increase in muzzle energy.

is there a way to dampen the recoil on a springer? I have the Stoeger RX20 S3 that someone literally begged me to take because they couldn't shoot accurately with it. they had it "detuned' whatever that means...to try to get decent groupings and accuracy. I don't know what was done until I open it up and have a look. I've tried to shoot with it myself and it is rather difficult to get half decent accuracy or groupings. it's the .22 version. I'm new to plinking so still very green with this sport. I was told by the guy who gave it to me to rather sell it as it will never shoot like a weirauch...it's a cheap entry level product not meant for accuracy...which I think is a pity really...it's a very sleek looking rifle
@nickvending9688
@nickvending9688 Жыл бұрын
A good quality springer can be tuned to shoot very nicely. Some are docile to shoot from the factory, such as my HW77K. The Stoegers have quite a few design flaws that make them inaccurate, they are a budget rifle but the cheaper Remington Express shoots so much better. I'm not sure how they would have detuned the Stoeger, maybe they shortened the spring to reduce the recoil and muzzle flip.

@@nickvending9688 what's the difference between gas ram and spring? do you think it would be worth it to tune the Stoeger RX20 to shoot better? if so what can I try, to make it more accurate? If I could get the recoil dampened and cancel the muzzle flip...I think it would be pretty decent?! I haven't tuned the trigger yet
@nickvending9688

@@dorianspence1335 gas ram uses in effect the same system as the pneumatic struts on a car boot, so it uses the compression of gas in place of a spring to propel the piston forward when the trigger is released. The gas is contained, so it is not a PCP or a single stroke pneumatic. Gas ram rifles tend to be quite unrefined, especially budget air rifles and can be extremely variable in terms of power and consistency. Check out my videos on Gamo rifles to see just how different what is basically the same gun can be. I prefer spring over gas ram. In terms of tuning the Stoeger I've done a few jobs in it over the series. Personally though, I wouldn't really bother with it, better put the money towards something else.

Not really sure how much one would sell for. I'm likely selling the X20S from the series on behalf of the owner but I reckon it would struggle to get £75.

what is the top hat for?
@nickvending9688
@nickvending9688 Жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for your comment. A nonmetallic top hat isolates the spring from the piston to cut down on vibration. It also allows the spring to rotate freely, which helps with shot consistency.
