Hyprland does not have explicit sync in its compositor (the wlroots) In this video he said you can patch Kwin to have explicit sync and for now that is not coming to hyprland. So you can get the gpu drivers but you wont get both working in tandem at least for right now. You will still see gains though with the gpu driver alone.

I own an AMD Card, but I'm happy for the Nvidia peeps! I hope that will polish the Image of Linux, because many ppl still think that Nvidia is bad on Linux. Year or linux desktop? 😂😂

This is one more roadblock removed for me. Only thing left is to hope that Logitech, Corsair, and Elgato decide to support linux. Once my peripherals are supported, I can finally switch.

I've been using Pop!_OS for quite some time alongside my nVIDIA GPU and all has been working great! There are some problems with the DLSS in certain games, but it can be somewhat fixed by a few commands. My Experience has been positive, hopefully soon nVIDIA will shake hands with Linux to improve stuff more!

I think gpus below rtx 3060 by nvidea are not worth to buy right now, I think at similar prices amd gpus give better but for gtx 3060 and higher, no one can beat nvidea

What the hell guys, I am still on Nvidia and won't switch any time soon as I am not a gamer and I don't really need an upgrade. But I don't care what Nvidia does from now on, it's too late for them to save me. I will go next time with AMD. Also, with AMD everything is set out of the box, as you can see here in this video, too, there is always going to be endless tinkering with Nvidia.

Thank you for this video. Since today I was unable to run Tuxedo OS 3/KDE 6 with my MSI RTX 4060ti 16GB on my new rig. Flickering is gone so far, in the last 4 hours almost twice but not comparable with the 545 or 550 driver before. With those the system was unusable. Thumbs up and abo. Thank you very much!!!

@@A1RM4X Absolutely. I remember trying to daily drive linux even a couple years ago and really had to force myself while finding a ton of really iffy workarounds. It has been fantastic so far this time around.

The 555 drivers are a huge leap for Linux! I'm so happy to see this. The speed and smoothness of all the games I play is stunning. I can truly say at this time that games (At least the ones I play) Run just as good if not a bit better on Linux now.

@@Arch-Propagandist-Sage Not really, actually. Cuda stuff was well functional before that. It is the gaming/UI stuff that is finally being taken care of. I think the fact that Steam Deck was all AMD gave Nvidia an idea that there is a whole market of iGPUs is sliding right from under their noses.

I'm glad that the NVIDIA users are getting these new updates! I can't get rid of the feeling that NVIDIA is focusing Linux more because the cloud gaming systems are mostly running on Linux, I'd appreciate it if I was wrong tho

I've had no problems with screensharing on discord. Works out of the box for me. No idea when that happened, I think it's from some setting Fedora uses. Im Fedora 40 KDE. I'm sure the audio isn't there still on the screen share, but it works

i would love an arch nvidia install video. i'm fairly new to linux, i still use windows as primary and always will because a lot of things i need is not available in linux YET. but i have no problem trying it out as a dual boot and wish to have secure boot enabled. great news for my 4070, just wish the FPS performance gets better over time soon.

The best way for a newbie to install Arch right now is actually to use a derivative like CachyOS or Garuda Linux. You'll get all of the benefits with less setup and baseline knowledge requirements. Installing Arch itself is pretty easy these days - just type archinstall upon booting from USB - but it does require some knowledge of basic Linux terms and how to identify the drive you want to install to.

Yeah, just installed it and tested performance on batman arkham knight. It definitely is more stable than xorg, but crashes after a while. Once they fix it, in the end, at least for me, it presents a better experience

i'm using linux-tk kernel with the new nvidia 555 drivers. Also copied the kernel option and still getting like 45-50 fps on a 4070 which seems odd. Also my vulcan games now all crash when i try to start them but they were working on the 550 driver

You need egl-wayland and kwin-explicit-syncm links from AUR are in the video description. I will also make a full stream with an install from scratch this Friday.

I was having issues with Wayland and the 550 driver, I switched to x11 and everything is perfect. I downloaded the 555 driver, I don't really have a good reason to install it, all my games run flawlessly, the desktop is very snappy, With wayland my desktop wasn't even running at my refresh rate, it was all over the place, steam wouldnt even display with gpu acceleration on. Yeah it was a mess

J'étais hype par le début, puis vers le fin tu parles de la perte de FPS.... un problème déjà présent et pour lequel je reste sous X11 (Fedora 40). C'est vraiment dommageable que ce problème ne soit toujours pas corrigé pour les config' moyenne comme la mienne (2070 laptop). Je perds environ 20/30fps en jeu, ce qui est juste pas possible :/

Je comprends. Cependant il faut etre patient, c'est une versoin beta et le debut de l implementation de l explicit sync sous Linux... D ici fin de l année tout sera reglé.

Is anyone can play far cry 6 on wine? I only can play it with wine-staging in Arch but that version of wine is very old and deprecated. i try lutris again give me same issue i don't want download that game again with steam. the issue is game stuck on splash screen and nothing load

When is it coming out on Bazzite. Just installed Bazzy yesterday, but a glitchy native Xonotic runs with a periodic judder but steam No mans sky run perfect after a few restarts (probably shader cache related) , hopefully this driver will do the job.

Bazzite apparently only does stable releases, so sometime in the next few weeks is only a guess.

@@EloyCulley Just a bit glitchy, I may have borked something in the configs because i didn't complete the start-up guide as that crashed installing chrome. Will do a re-install tonight and try again..

@@EloyCulley All sorted. Apparently selecting X11 session in start up resolves all issues. Seems plasma kde 6 now works really well on x11, most if not all bugs resolved....Ironic isn't it considering they are now dropping x11 support, they must love the bugs?

From what I have read I'm pretty sure this driver was supposed to have worse Vulkan performance, and that won't be improved until 560.

Hey Ryan! For Debian stable it will take time and for Fedora, I am almost sure you could get all the packages from Rawhide.

Wayland is the future whether people want it to be or not since X11 simply isn't going to be maintained or updated anymore. Most gamers use nVidia cards simply due to the extra features nVidia has that AMD simply won't compete with yet. This is, potentially, revolutionary for Linux adoption since the current updates to Windows will be driving people to look for alternatives and Steam has made Linux much less of an alien concept to the normies. With a functional nVidia driver one of the biggest hurdles for adoption by the general public is removed.

Dammit, I just finally decided how to upgrade from my current out of date Nvidia card and now my agonising decision is unsolved again. Petit conseil amicale d'une personne bilingue de par ses parents: il vaut mieux prononcer les "th" de l'anglais comme des "d" plutôt que they "z". Exemple, "the cat" se prononce mieux "de cat" que "ze cat". Idem pour les mots comme "they", "there", 'those", etc.
