For Nvidia, I typically go with the second or third driver after release. Its usually mature enough and also the most compatible.

Sure my friend! But it's interessting to see that later driver did a good Job on Geforce 256. But why? Maybe to much CPU overheat/ overload (hope you know what i mean) on slower CPU's with later drivers?

Aside from possibly brightness, did you notice any image quality differences? There were always a few "optimisations" in some of the drivers back then lol.

From what I remember on my Geforce 2 MX at least, I had better performance with older Detonator versions from 2001 on Win98, than with the newest supported driver. Always on a PIII 1.2 Ghz. In your video the newer driver seems to be a little bit ahead in some scenes. Also love Windows Me, it was my first experience with a computer, I got my first PC in early 2001.

yup, the newer drivers at that time had legacy support for the old nvidia cards, but the newer drivers were really meant to be used with the newer cards and so on

Nice content anyway: There are plenty of better driver revision in the middle like late 28.xx or 30.82 detonator version. Platform used? Believe me but older platforms likes older drivers versions.

Yes i believe you! ☺ I used a faster P4 Setup with SSE2. Yeah i know nobody will use a Geforce 256 with faster P4. But i had it lying around and wondering what will happen with early and newer driver.

@@blastfromthepast3073 @P4 is too fast for a GeForce 256. With slow Slot1 or 370 or AMD equivalent you will see huge difference between them.
