I am completely changing what I wrote earlier. I have done a bit more testing with various pads. Originally I believed hot spot temps were indicative of VRAM, but it is not. But I do know that this pad mod for the RTX 3070 FE is incredibly important because I have an rx 6700 xt that hits around 90+ degrees with no mod. After the mod it gets closer to 70 degrees and that one does have a sensor for VRAM. They have similar ram as well I believe, so doing the pad mod is highly important for mining. Also for the size, I have used 1.5mm and 2mm. 1.5mm is not the correct size from the ones I received because there are no visible indentations left on the card. With 2mm, you will start to notice slight indentations which is good because it means contact is made between VRAM / VRM and the heatsink. I have noticed my GPU core increase as well in temps, which is a good sign the VRAMs are being cooled. I would highly suggest using very high w/mk thermal pads such as Frosty Thermal Pad 12.8 W/MK. Doing so will increase the longevity of the card over time. Thanks for the video!!!

I get 77°C on 3070FE with stock thermal pads while playing with MSI Afterburner, will it help the temps to lower with Frosty Thermal Pads 2mm ?

@@xxMyGodIsaDJxx The 3070 series doesn't have a monitor to tell memory junction temps. But you can estimate the amount of reduction in memory temps this does. I also have a RX 6700 XT which went from 95 degrees to now around 70 degrees. To know the mod went down properly, there should be a slight increase in core temps. So initially the gpu was getting 50-55 C core. Now its around 63-65, but the memory junction temps now show 70 -75 degrees which is a huge drop (almost 20 degrees). It makes a difference. I recommend buying for longevity of the gpu.' It really makes the difference once you use on cards with GDDR6X memory like the 3080. Temps easily drop 20+ degrees for memory and it shows on the monitor since that card does have one for memory junction.

At 4:35 it looks like you placed the thermals on the capacitors rather than then memory chips BETWEEN the capacitors, on the right AND just below the capacitors on the left. Good luck!

Ok i have done it for myn. Its 2.5mm soft pads termalright any valor odin i put 17w/m.q Small squiz beofore instalatio just to make sure for better GPU presure Using mx5 paste. Thats it

my 3070 is never over 40c ? i dont get why a 115w tdp would need better thermals? just bring the power down below 40% ( i put mine on 38% lowest AB would allow) 62.8 @ 545kh/w sorry but this looks like a clear waste of time and just beggin for something to go wrong imo.

Clearly your looking at the regular temps and not memory temps, you’re prob cooking this card without even knowing

If you’re referring to a regular 3070 then you don’t have to worry about temps, it’s only 3080,3090. Etc

Check out frosty thermal pad 12.8. Affordable price for excellent pads. They also sell 1.5mm ;)
