The U.S. Naval War College is pleased to host the Issues in National Security Lecture Series for academic year 2021/22. The ninth lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, February 8, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Join Professor Terence Roehrig who will speak about “North Korea under Kim Jong-un’s rule: Ten Years and Counting” for 45 minutes and then take questions from you.
From Professor Roehrig: December 2021 marked 10 years of Kim Jong-un’s rule after his father’s death. During the past decade, Kim Jong-un has consolidated his political power and ruled with an iron hand while growing North Korea’s nuclear weapon and ballistic missile programs. The North’s economy continues to struggle, and Kim has offered unusually candid assessments of the country’s economic troubles. This presentation will examine the current and future prospects of North Korean politics and economics along with its nuclear program and possible U.S. policy directions going forward.
Terence Roehrig is professor of National Security Affairs at the U.S. Naval War College and a non-resident expert with the Center for Korean Legal Studies at Columbia University. He was a Research Fellow at the Kennedy School at Harvard University and a past president of the Association of Korean Political Studies. Roehrig has published numerous books, articles and book chapters on Korean and East Asian security issues, North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, Korean maritime security, deterrence theory, and the U.S.-South Korea alliance. Professor Roehrig received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

That will happen when the US war machine leaves the peninsula the same way they left vietnam and afghanistan. Until then they can´t live freely unfortunately.
