fun fact the teleport incident wiped Fittoa region completely barren. Not even grass remained. No ruins of buildings or anything else. Just bare mud that was hard to grow crops on. Many people died of malnourishment and just exhaustion after getting there. Things are slowly turning up once they get water to a well from a nearby river though. And some seeds planted. But it is hard going for the refugees for long time.

In the text *only* grass remained. Everything else was wiped away, artificial or natural. Only rolling hills covered with grass. No cut stones, no trees, no fields of wheat or flowers... only a sea of green grass.

Why do people act so weird about it Eris is 15 and Rudeus is 14 years old. Also the story is happening in middle ages wher people doesn't live long in those times it was very common that stuff like this happened where 15-16 years olds even used to marry and have kids of their own. And even know days kids are losing their virginity at 15-16 years old it is wrong but it shows the state of your society in the middle ages it was due to short lifespan but know days the culture has ditirieted and causing things like it. I have seen some people act like Rudeus is a pedo but do they want him to have sex with a 40 year old woman when he is physically just 14 doesn't that make the woman a pedo instead because she had sex with him. I don't like the argument that just because he remembered his past life he should not get together with someone he loves and someone who loves him . As you can see he never got out of his house in his first life he never learns how to behave himself around other people mainly girls, even tho he was 40 years old he was less matured compared to Paul who lives in the middle ages and never went to school and is just 23-25 years old . He just looks 40 he has an emotional intelligence of a teenager boy, rebellious and who only thinks about women and sex . The first thing that happened to him when he gets out of his room he tried to save someone's life and died even know he hasitated to do it with Eris. But Eris seduced him she knew he liked her and she used it . And he was not transported to this world like other isekai protagonists he was born in this world like any other kid. And a fact in this world you are considered a adult when you turn 15 so it was basically ok in my opinion.

I haven't really seen their inworld ages argument so far. The only major complaint I have seen is the pedo-mc argument. And yes I agree with all of your points. In addition to that I think people are overthinking it, he got reborn so his body's age started from 0. Yes his minds age is different but imagine this u travel back in time to your younger self, now are u a pedo if you interacted with your then gf? Similarly in buddhist community you hear monks knowing about their past life (not entirely apparently) but they know they are reincarnated so aren't they technically over 100yrs old and all of their interactions, relationship pedo-like. People should be treating the mc with his body's age. The past self part should be treated only as the scar he has to get over (for the plot). Considering how unrealistic situation it is people shouldn't treat it as a normal rl case and write him off as pedo-mc (though he overdoes it time to time) and if they want to engage on that again imaginary situation, debate should be whether it is the body's age, the mind's maturity or even the societal rules of the time that determines if it is okay.

It is only in 2023 that Japan raised the age of consent from 13 to 16, with a Romeo and Juliet doctrine of not more than 5 years. They used to be extremely lax with child p0rn in the not so distant past, especially for male minors as they were accorded less protection under the law. In fact, in the 80s and 90s, it was not uncommon for parents to sign their children up for suggestive photoshoots or even explicit content production.

@pimon- Real monks usually don't engage in any sexual relations with opposite gender. PDFiliac behavior tends to have deep lust with a prepubescent person and fantasizing physically and emotionally mature person having s*xual acts with an underage. We can't really blame rudeus, as for the creator of the story they sure had PDFiliac mind, not really mind boggling because we know many japanese manga/anime creator likes shota/Loli stories

It might seem like a comical phrase "I want to have your kittens... meow", but people tend to forget the evolution of Rudeus as a character, first he learned that about the consent (ep.5-6), then that even if he has consent, he should stop to think about the person's feelings and the reason for their actions (ep 8). At this point of the story, he kept his position of not taking advantage of Eris who may feel hopeless because of the death of her whole family, but of "kittens" thing, it is a proposal to be a family, to be together for a long time, because they both love each other.

well the common theme in the series is that everyone thinks Rudious is super genius who can do no wrong. And she doesn't know how to write. Or well basically childs first attempt at writing if you will. She should have written I am going on a journey to get stronger. Or something like that. I am personally not fan of what the author did with Eris's departure. But it all comes around descently well in volume 15. Which would be season 3. Territory.

She is getting too attached to rudeus, just like sylphie she wants to be able to protect him when he's in trouble. So she is training and probably won't be back till late season 2 if we're lucky but it'll probably be in season 3 or 4 when it happens. I have a friend who has read all the light novels. He just said it very vaguely so I wouldn't get spoiled

The more I listen to you two the more it's driven home how divorced your entire culture in America is from the setting that this is in. What Eris did is good in a "romantic" way, but in her responsibility she's very selfish and spoiled, her 13 years of life before the Mass Teleportation Incident was built on the backs of the people she's now abandoned because of her love for Rudeus, what happens there from then on is partially on her head as she could've been somewhat influential by rebuilding the Borias family.

If you are in her place will you do it? It's easy to say that she should just accept the responsibility but the mana calamity was a literal calamity, she doesn't need to suffer the consequences of that event since she didn't caused it.

@@ajop2235 If I were in her place, yeah I would sacrifice my happiness for the betterment of the people I am subject to. It's a responsibility issue and it's part of the disconnect I think Americans just can't associate with. Lets take the real world example of Prince Harry and Meghan. Do Americans really know why the British hate the pair of them SO much? I don't think they do, as the reasons I've seen are their attention seeking nature. That isn't it. They're both being a bad example of how Royalty are meant to act AND they're airing private business in the public and being brazen about it. 20 years ago there was a Duchess called Sarah Ferguson who did something similar and she was similarly hated, her actions were looked down on as she was VERY public about things meant to be kept private, there's a standard to keep. It's why people were so critical of Harry as a young teen and his Lager Lout attitude, the Nazi uniform and other things. "You don't do that sort of thing as a Royal. You don't pay for anything, your life is paid for by the British Public's money, so your burden is to present a front to the people that might not be how you think and feel, but you do it because it's how you're expected to behave." And Eris in this context - while what she does is romantic and a noble thing for Rudeus - is bad for her people as she put the interests of herself and Rudeus ahead of them, and she lived without a care in the world before the Mass Teleportation incident (and even after it really, as Rudy made her life easy in comparison to others)

She has no power in the Boreas family. James, her uncle and hostage-holder of her brothers, is the head of the family now. She is an inconvenience for him, so giving her as a concubine to Pilemon is getting some use out of her. Pilemon wouldn't even hold her for long, but trade her to Darius for political favors. Darius has had his eye on her since she was seven and almost got her with the kidnapping incident. Eris' father failed his bid for being the next head of the family and he was relegated to being the mayod of Roa while James hobnobbed with the other nobles in Ars. Sauros preferred being in Roa, closer to the people of his demesne. So Eris held no responsibility towards the people of the province and she had no desire to do anything for them. Her noble name allowed her to live a privileged life, but now it was but a burden, forcing her into a role of a bargaining chip between her betters. By all accounts she did the right thing. Pilemon has already turned coats by that point from supporting Ariel to supporting her brother in their bid for the throne, and Darius is a schemer who'd find some way to personally profit from every deal he makes. Depriving them both what they want is a correct course of action, and the support gained by selling her to them wouldn't have been much anyway. Most of whatever she would've brought in for the Boreas house would've gone into more slaves and wine for James' own enjoyment.

@@UncensoredScion from the wider context you're missing a number of things: *Sauros* was the one who cared for the people of Fittoa, and maybe Philip to some degree. The current head of the family, James, does not. He spent his money and time after the Teleportation Incident partying at the capitol and garnering social currency from the other nobles; Sauros was executed after he used much of the family wealth to help the people of Fittoa and this proved an inconvenience to James and his "friends." Eris would've been quite literally sold by her uncle for political support and money to Pilemon, who would've gifted her to Darius as a pleasure object in exchange for political support. Alphonse's only hope was that she could influence Darius to provide some trickle-down to the rebuilding efforts. If Darius had any kind of interest in survival, he'd hold her locked in a dungeon between abuse sessions so she wouldn't beat him to death. That's how he'd treated a number of other noble daughters already; Philip knew, but couldn't prove the prime minister had such criminal proclivities. She originally wanted to go with him, so there was no remaining in Fittoa anyway.

Now, what makes it extremely screwed up is that Rudeus has the mental age of a 40 year old. But then again, it's Japan... Ugh...

well in mushoku world you become adult at 15 so it's legal and if people want to say that rudy is 50+ then that's also not a problem since age difference relationship is normal i mean there are humans who live for 70 years then migurad for 200 and elf for like 600,etc so this scene was 100% acceptable

Right now he is in a body of a 13 year old in the middle of puberty. That means he has all those hormones of his 13 year old body running through his brain. Bringing up his mental age is stupid in this situation. Also even in the real world his mental age was never 40. In case you forgot he was a mentally traumatized shut-in that lived half of his life closed up in his room. He barely had social contact and especially not with girls. Do you really believe such a person could be called a mentally 40 year old adult? Surely not. He never was a mentally 40 year old adult in the real world too. He never became a proper adult in the real world.

He has 40-someodd years of memories, but his maturation was stunted early in high school. And he's reliving a second childhood in a new body. Rudeus Greyrat is a new person with inherited memories.
