I have been to San Fernando Valley in Trinidad. They do everything like we do here in Ghana, the land, vegetation and lifestyle. The only difference is that there's a little bit of East Indian culture mixed with the African culture.

What the poster is implying is that there are differences because the influences are not just African but also from apna wala. There was no suggestion of anything negative except in the twisted mind. This is not how it happened. People were forcibly transported to these places. Most where not from Asante, they were taken from many places. A variety of people although there were more influential groups and those more steadfast in retaining their identity but this is revisionism. That said i advocate the idea of those in the diaspora being part of a unified phenomenon. In unity we find strength.

@@stephenboateng9360 You can check the statistics. Surprisingly most people were taken from the region where today you will find Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo. Of course this varies from island to island and country to country and who were administrators of those places, i.e. Dutch, british and so on. However some identities and cultures were more influential than others, this correlates with the most dominant kingdoms and empires of the times. So for instance those described as coromantee (but this name is most likely connected to point of departure than ethnicity) were extremely rebellious and likely to become runaways, thus in doing so they may have absorbed others but their culture remained dominant because they came from highly organised societies. I for one am reluctant to believe high numbers of my people were stolen away.

You are totally right people mix everything today .it is not because akan cultural features stayed visible that most of the people there are from akan origin..the enslaved population s of america in order to survive created their own system with features of differents african people .some names are akan other features are from benin or congo or nigeria. Exemple :it could have even been 1akan person on 100 others person if the akan one impacted the 99 others with a cultural features, eventually the name used for this cultural feature would eventually be kept in akan language. Unfortunaly today everybody coming from black americans are all akans and ashanti 🤦🏽‍♂️. Comon no ewes ,no ga ,no togolese or beninese were taken ??

They will always yeast history to make them look like saints where as the engaged in the capturing of slavers fir kwesi bronchi. The koromanstin king was captured with some of his supporters an people from akropong under the prestext of showing him where his citizens had been taken only to enslave him when they got to Jamaica. Many years later ashantis say the maroons were Ashantis when it is not true. They were from koromanstin and akuapim akropong. Jamaica is never Jama ya ca as they claim it’s an West Indian word. Xaymaca, the Taíno-Arawak name for the island, which translates, as 'isle of springs'.indigenous Indian tribes of southern American before Columbus even got there.

just research ma'am , love it or not you can keep reading the white man's history books and be their slave. Queen Nany of the maroon was the direct descendant of the then Asantehene who was sent to take care of her people there and yes the maroon were not just Ashanti's or Akans along but a mix of other tribes buh the most dominant and numerous of them were the Akans and due to inter marriages and interactions their offsprings automatically became Akans and with the name Jamaica, the Jamaicans themselves who are enlightened and study their history very well know that their towns and country was named after what the white man heard it's "gya ma ya ka" not what you said we also have some twi maroon towns there too please listen carefully and read either than make such vulgar statements and dumb claims
