If you just got a Tormach and are anxious to get your first part made: you're in the right place! This video goes step-by-step through creating the Fusion 360 CAM Setup, the first CAM operation, setting up the tool, simulating the G-Code, posting the code, loading it into PathPilot, setting up the WCS on the Tormach machine, and hitting cycle start! We also mention good safety tips and point out the most obvious areas we see folks make mistakes or crash.
00:00 Intro
00:25 - Create a new setup
02:15 - Create Contour Toolpath
03:26 - Simulate Toolpath
04:11 - Create NC Program
05:18 - Load File into Pathpilot
05:41 - Tool Setup and Measure Offsets
09:00 - Input Offsets into Pathpilot
10:15 - Jogging the Machine
11:03 - Zeroing Stock
13:42 - Feedhold and ending a Program
14:02 - Avoiding a crash
14:40 - Machining the Contour

This was the most awesome and useful video ever, when thinking about jumping into CNC I have always wanted to see how to program (CAM) load then setup my material then hit go! This is a video that no one has done (Like this). Thanks to SMW for producing this!

Great introduction video! Even though I had some experience with a desktop cnc mill for designing my PCB's it was very intimidating to hit the cycle start button on my 1100mx when I ran a program for the first time. Excellent work.

Great video, only knowing the CAM side of Fusion 360 I should really spend some time to figure out the rest of it.

thanks for the content, could you help a fellow community member with a question? How do you get fusion to output the WCS G54 P1, P2, P3...? Thanks!

Great video! Is the CAM workflow identical if I were to use Inventor CAM software instead of Fusion 360?

I don't understand why you put Z = 0 when the Haimer probe was on the surface. How would PathPilot know to use the Haimer length then? You just entered it as tool number 99. How would PathPilot know to use tool 99 height and not any other random tool height??? Is 99 a magic number?

what if you wanted to face the part how much would u have to put on the top of the z if you dont use relative size box?

If you don’t enter the tool height, you will need to zero the tool at the raw stock every time

Wow Saunders really has all the garage "machinist" sold on these fixture plates. Are you guys aware these plates and pallets are just machined plate stock? The Tormach 1100 plate is $799. A 35x12x1 plate of 6061 is $286.09. Saunders would charge me $3538.91 for a 40x16x1 plate with "pro" hardware for one of my machines. I could buy the stock for $442.08 and machine it to my machine. oh, and this includes his little vise because Kurt, Orange, Raptor, Shunk, and 5th axis haven't got it right. This is crazy, people buy these plates and don't even get a real vise. You guys are just paying him to do what you should be doing, machining. he gives you the prints and CAD files.
