Nothing broke on the car. This car is the outlaw 10.5 record holder. It makes over 3000hp and its on 33x10.5s. They brought the power on and it spun the tires and hit the wall. It happens alot when the power comes on around 250-350ft

This type of guardrail was never intended for use on racetracks. The track owner may as well install ramps along the dragstrip. From Wikipedia, for "Jersey barrier" "Head-ons are minimised by gradually lifting the vehicle and pivoting it away from oncoming vehicles and back into traffic heading in its original direction."

That's a lot of power behind that GTO and the force was crazy enough too move three concrete barricades

@mocharger0611 жыл бұрын
They need to reconfigure those barriers. That bevel at the base acts just like a ramp, so the tires hit it before the body does.
@blythkd90172 жыл бұрын
Yip exactly what I thought. Looked like if it hadn't been for the tapered base when he hit the center barricade, it might not have flipped. I'm gonna say probably would not have flipped.

@carrick16612 жыл бұрын
Yeah i second that. The car went to the right around 80ft or so. The center of the racetrack is unprepped. So its like having one tire on a sticky track and one on unprepped concrete.

for anyone that has ever been around drag racing you can clearly see that the car drifted out of the groove when this happens the tire that is still on the rubber maintains traction and the tire that is out of the groove looses traction which is what caused the car to dart towards the wall like it did. and once the car moves like that at there is virtually nothing that richard could have done. glad richard was ok.
@TheoneGodfather Жыл бұрын
Both tires broke traction because they were both out of the groove.

Kids, Just goes to show you, "Stab it and steer it" does not apply here. Car has so much power, and when it spun the tires because it was a little out of the groove, it was already being hurled down the track and a rate that was not going to be slowed by letting off of the throttle. Think: "Bullet".

Glad he's ok, the car can be rebuilt and it's probably a good thing the other guy broke on the line, or it might have been a lot worse. YB nats and WCF are the two best races of the year without a doubt

Watch the rear tires! Violent tire shake and then the tires were cupping and then loss of traction. That's when you see the tire smoke.

Thats what Im talk'n about! Dude crashes hard and gets out to pick the pieces of his car up off the track. Thats a true drag racer. Most of these younger guys break something and they get out of the car and throw their helmet on the ground or at the car and cry for an hour. And not to mention leave the mess for management to clean up.

most dragsters use a type of brake ( i forgot what its called) but it designed to keep the transmission locked in place by using both the forward and reverse at the same time, while the driver has his foot on the accelerator theyre designed to keep the car from going going anywhere until the driver releases that break. Thats also how most dragsters like these get such an explosive acceleration. Right as soon as the light hits green, thats when the driver is to release the break. But sometimes these types of brake systems have a tendency to break loose before the driver is even ready to release it. And i think thats probably what happened in this situation. The driver wasnt ready to go, and when the brake broke loose, I believe it probably caught them by surprise. Causing the driver to loose control and crash. I belive that may have been what happened. I don't know for sure. But my dad used to do a lot of road racing, and my neighbor does drag racing, and i also have a friend that also did racing, and another friend of ours is now just getting into drag racing
@LT1Fanatic19 жыл бұрын
lawnchaser What you're talking about is called a transmission brake or more commonly called a transbrake. The GTO didn't have a problem with his transbrake and he left on a green after the Camaro was timed out and received a red light. Unfortunately, he just got out of the groove and hit the wall. It happens to the best of them and he is one of the best.
@lawnchaser9 жыл бұрын
Scott On KZfaq oh OK. I just thought it was because sometimes the transbrake has a tendency to break loose. But I actually know what all happened with the car. I just saw it take off and loose control. But yeah it was a blessing that the other guy didn't get caught up

You must not know who richard sexton is... or anything about outlaw 10.5 either... u try to get 4,000hp down the strip on a 10.5" slick.. infact i bet you cant do it on a 20" slick
@thehiddenwinter9 жыл бұрын
Couldn't careless, you must be an idiot if you think that 'burnout' would suffice.
@jvracingvids65296 жыл бұрын
thehiddenwinter it hooked hard for the first 60 feet, traction was not the issue, so a bigger burnout wouldnt have made a difference. he hook hard and went straight until that spot. the issue was either A. he simply got outta the groove slighty or B. possibly hit some fluid, oil, moisture from the exhaust, trans fluid etc. ive seen promods do weaker burnout and still blast down the 1/4 in less than 6 seconds.

Sad that they run such fast cars at a drag strip with such shitty walls, sorry, those cement barricades are for temporary road construction, not for race cars to hit. I REAL concrete wall would of damaged the car, but not let the car climb the wall and roll over. That's a sad excuse for a dragstrip.

You couldn't be more wrong those are the perfect walls for this sporting event.

mortisha allagebordo totaly agree. You want walls that move when u head on at 200mph not solid neck snaping walls

dustin cotton exactly man. couldnt agree more. Dale earnhardt sr lost his life in the 2001 daytona 500 when his car went head on into the concrete wall at over 150mph. Not a big fan of nascar but dale earnhardt sr was one heck of a driver

Weak burn out, he over powered the tires when the clutches fully engaged. This shows the importance of a proper burnout, and peoples stupid ego trip about doing second burnouts if the first was weak, not to mention that the pit man should of made him return to the water box after the unsuccessful burnout.
