Wonderfull to see...but rather sad as well. I'm so glad that Sir Nigel Gresley has been restored and is now undergoing testing on the SVR👍 Sadly we seem to have lost Union of South Africa for the forseeable future....it'll be stuck in a barn in Scottish field somewhere😒 That's no way to treat what should be regarded a Naional treasure! They should all be restored and out working so people can smell hear and appreciate the raw power and understand what they are really about! Static Displays?? Nah🤔

Magnificent. The start is like looking at three eagles sat high in a tree waiting to go off for their prey. I know humans give humans a fair bit of stick, but those machines are superbly impressive.

There is a core of preservationists in the U. S., some very important and interesting stock has been preserved, some returned to the rails. One of the things I like about Germany, Germans can be rabid steam fans, and steam preservation is alive and well here.

America could do a mechanical overhaul on ‘Dwight D Eisenhower’. There is a few rich Americans/Canadians who get classic British aircraft working, hopefully one day someone will do the same with the Eisenhower or Canada. But if you do, don’t dare beat Mallard’s speed record! 😃

As a Southern Man, I must say this is, without a doubt the best steam video I have seen! Ah! Bullied came from the same stable, and was born in Winton, Southland, NZ. I live at the top of the S. Island, Winton is near the bottom. Love those A4's, saw number 9 at Llandudno Junction in 2014.

Tragic that the V2 is not in steam. If NRM can waste £6million and 10 years failing to recommission the Scotsman, they could surely spend the money to have a new monobloc made.

Love the show of the A4s out in the rain and then seeing the V2. Sad that Green Arrow will never run again. The V2s were in my opinion Gresley finest in looks and sound. They had a very lopsided syncopated beat that the A3s never had.

ive heard Green Arrow is being overhauled

@Cazkumali I haven't heard that but I hope you are correct. I believe it has a vast mono lock set of cylinders that has cracked so need a new one I think the cost would be very high.

Can someone explain to a less-knowledgeable person (i.e. me) who's trying to learn a bit more about how steam locos work - when the V2 comes to a stand at around 7:20, why does the exhaust from the chimney suddenly turn black? I saw a comment that a cord was pulled so I assume this was an emergency stop. So is the black smoke appearing mainly because the steam would have been immediately shut off from the cylinders, leaving just the exhaust from the fire coming out of the chimney? And if this is the case, why doesn't black smoke happen every time a loco comes to a stop? Or if it's something completely different, can someone explain? thanks!

While it's nice to see them all running, it's a shame they are forced to run so slowly on preserved lines. The A4s in particular don't like running that slow, it is better for them to run at mainline speeds.
@kayleighbrown965 Жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, me, my 4 year old (A4s are his favourite), my Mum went to Nene Valley for Easter when S.N.G visited, he wanted to go, but there's a 25mph limit on the line, he's Mainline certified though and has done a railtour last year.

@spankflaps13652 жыл бұрын
Shame that No. 9 and Green Arrow will never run again. Green Arrow has a cracked monobloc, and this is not replaceable. It could be replaced in 3 sections, but the purists won’t allow it. The loco was only eligible for preservation when it was withdrawn, because it still had the monobloc. Personally I don’t care about the monobloc. I’d rather see another LNER loco back in steam because they are dropping like flies and there’s so few anyway.
@thewelshtraingeek48952 жыл бұрын
NRM did say they were considering overhauling the loco 2 years ago, so you never know
@generalgrievous56152 жыл бұрын
Why can't we replace the mono block?
@trainsandgames201892 жыл бұрын
It’s incredibly expensive to make a part such as that in one piece
@KAAKKK2 жыл бұрын
What’s a mono block?
@trainsandgames201892 жыл бұрын
It’s the cylinder casting for Green Arrow, and also the reason it was preserved. The NRM have deemed the cost of replacing it achievable but expensive, and said it would be better in the later 3 piece version.
@nigelparker58862 жыл бұрын
Sorry for my ignorance, but why at 7.23 and on...is the loco spewing out so much really heavy black soot issue? And then returns, whilst under load, to a nice clean chimney discharge! Is it some sort of a firebox? clear out? White is, I assume, essentially steam? Grey a mix of steam and soot...but that black!!! It could ruin your washing you’d just put out!? Cheers

I know Gresley has been restored to steam what's the situation with union of South Africa and bittern are they still steaming or sitting somewhere?
@terrier_productions2 жыл бұрын
Bittern is awaiting for an overhaul, so she’s currently part of the 1:1 hornby collection in Margate and 60009 has been permanently withdrawn from traffic. Her owner, John Cameron, has planned for a museum for both his engines to be built on his farm..

Good footage from 2008 considering that most people where still using either hi8 or digital8 tape camcorders at the time, and the days before Smartphones and HD cameras with 1920x1080p resolution where popular, expensive they would've been. I'm guessing this wasn't recorded on some consumer grade camera. If only we public could get that close to those engines. I can't even go to my nearest railway bridge to watch the trains pass under because the friggin control freak council have made the bridges (everyone of em) at an height of about 2 meters so you can't see over, the excuse being due to electrified lines below which is just nonsense IMO.

Later, because of that locomotive's good condition, he decided that Union of South Africa would continue running through until January 2022 on the East Lancashire Railway.
