NYPD swears in first deaf intern

28 күн бұрынThe NYPD swore in one of its first deaf interns on Friday. Heriberto Almonte, of Brooklyn, will act as the disability liaison in the Community Affairs Bureau and will expand on the department's relationship in the deaf community.

Sad that you didn’t pay attention, he’s basically an intern acting as a consultant to teach police how to deal with deaf people. You probably don’t know this, but there are many stories across the country of police officers escalating to violence on deaf people because they “didn’t comply” with commands they literally can’t hear or understand. Grabbing a deaf person from behind and slamming them to the ground because they didn’t stop when they were told, from behind, as a deaf person. Catch up to the rest of the adults in the room please 😂

He’s not a cop. He’s a civilian working for the NYPD as a sign language instructor. Disabled people deserve the same opportunities in life if they are qualified. Sounds like you’re the DEI hire at work considering you can’t pay any attention to detail.

He isn’t being hired as an officer, did you pay attention to the video you’re commenting on? He’s basically a consultant to teach police how to deal with deaf citizens, especially considering many stories across the country of police escalation to violence on innocent deaf citizens because they “didn’t comply” with commands they physically cannot hear, understand, or process. Deaf person slammed to the ground from behind because they didn’t stop when told, from behind, while deaf
