The New York City Police Department has launched a test flight of nearly 200 electric cars in an effort to reduce the city's carbon footprint. It's the largest electric police vehicle trial in the country. Kris Van Cleave has more.

As a german LEO I can say that in bigger cities EVs make a lot of sense. The medium to low speed that is driven in cities and the amount of time you often just stand around in your car greatly qualifies EVs for use in cities. Range is also not really a problem and with newer cras that are able to charge upwards of 75% in less than twenty minutes it's ideal for charging at the station when you've got some paper work to do. We already use EVs in some german cities and the results are promising...

I’ve had to burst many a developer’s bubbles to let them know fancy stuff they spent months on doesn’t work. So kudos to the NYPD for field testing this. @Anthony-hc7ej
@Anthony-hc7ej Жыл бұрын
Not at all. Drag applies to any speed when talking range. All EVs, outside of Tesla do not have access to level 3 charging. Tesla is slowly rolling out access, but the chargers shown here are Level 2, which is considered “fast charging” but not as fast as it needs to be to support a 45 min charge as you’ve stated. The Level 2’s have the same power as a dryer (220). Although more than than a typical plug (110), most EVs being built do not obtain a full 220 charge. The label “DC fast charging” is misleading and heavily dependent on the charge and type of battery, similarity the way we use the terms “organic” and “free range.”

@@Anthony-hc7ej Anthony-hc7ej (auto-gen bot name?), that’s another lie. DCFC using the widely-known CCS connector standard charges non-Tesla vehicles as fast as 350kW, depending on the model. Respected publications like Motortrend note that Mach-E fast charges 10-80 in either 38 minutes or 45 depending on the battery size. You’re straight up lying, trying to make it look like it’s a contested fact. Hundreds of KZfaq channels post their experience with these exact cars and chargers.
@Anthony-hc7ej
@Anthony-hc7ej Жыл бұрын
Your missing the main point, LEVEL 2 charger (the charger itself) does not have a high enough output to charge a car in 45 min. As someone who actually owns multiple EVs, your not getting the same charge as you would a Level 3. The NYPD only owns Level 2 as shown in the video. This is the exact reason why Biden wanted Tesla to open the charging network. ElectrifyAmerica offers some Level 3 but no nearly as much as Tesla. There are a few variations of Mach-e with different batteries and charging speeds. Again, it doesn’t matter what battery you have if your not at a Level 3 or 4 charger, your not charging under an hour if your at 10%. FYI, no car is charging at 350, even teslas (most throttle back to protect the components). Current tesla’s get 250 usually except the RWD M3 that’s getting 220. The Mach e’s are getting about 140, although they do get 160 in the first couple of minutes. They are advertising 350 for future use, but again if your at a Level 2, your not getting anything close to that. ONLY Level 3’s have the ability to go up to 350. Here is a great article from a reliable source: www.kbb.com/car-advice/fastest-charging-electric-cars/ Good luck with your reading of the Ford pamphlet (No one fact checks them btw), it may make you a good salesman but wont fool someone that actually owns one.
