NYS troopers enforcing move over law with double bars on patrol vehicles

If you can't already see the flashing blue, red and amber LED lights on the rear of a NYSP car you have no business driving because your're legally blind. The problem here isn't the style or height of the lights. The problem is too many distracted drivers that simply don't care about the safety of others.
@marco_grt44603 жыл бұрын
it is not a bad idea, in Italy the Traffic Police have the panel that rises with the words "slow down" or "alt" instead of being inside the vehicle as nypd, or as road maintenance vehicles, I know that in Germany police have special vans with displays that say if there is an accident or something. If they can't even see those two questions like "who gave them their licenses and who renewed them" are inevitable
@doccarson633 жыл бұрын
Does New York State Police have BLINDING light Bars like Georgia State Police? I see people ignore Georgia's Troop'z too. Every State has drivers that don't know to move to the RIGHT if emergency vehicles are approaching. Idiot's, we're surrounded by IDIOT'S!

For anyone wondering it is meant to be visible over traffic, if there is a large van blocking the police car the vertical lights can still be seen while the normal ones can’t. Move over law is also a good thing, it literally is if you see a police car, fire truck, or ambulance pull over, it isn’t hard
@jrftworth Жыл бұрын
That's where people should be issued a ticket for parking behind an emergency vehicle when it's emergency lights are activated. These "riser lightbars" are useless because people see them from a distance, they don't understand what they are supposed to do or what is going on ahead. People don't begin paying attention to what's going on until they get right up on the scene where emergency vehicles are present. Lastly, police officers are trained and required by policy to secure an accident scene, so that everyone there is safe. Officers can and should use their emergency vehicle to block a lane or two, in addition they can use coned or flares to block off a scene. I have used a variety of emergency lights over the years from rotating halogen lights, to strobes and LED'S. A modern horizontal LED lightbar, auxiliary lights on the side and rear of a emergency vehicle is more than adequate to be visible and direct traffic away from a scene on the side of the road.

People still won't move over. Then when they pull over 1 of the hundreds who blatantly refuse to get over the drivers cry that the city "has a quota for writing tickets" The really should give people who refuse to merge at least 600.00 per offense and have the drivers stand on the side of the road for 10 minutes so they can feel how terrifying it is with cars going 75 by them

First, you must educate people that there is a move over law and how to respond. Most people don't know it's the law or they just don't care.
@8829523 жыл бұрын
The only way they can't know is if they never considered it important enough to bother remembering, because you can't go through getting a license and NOT come across this subject. It's just like everything else; the average selfish person just doesn't care about anythig but their own miserable little lives.

You have to be a special kind of stupid if you don't move over when you approach emergency vehicles that are stopped on the shoulder or in a lane of traffic with lights activated. Law or no law, it's tye safe and responsible thing to do

zz449944 that's only in Long Island, blue lights in the front were legal since 2006 but most depts don't see a need to upgrade to blue
@peterburton31473 жыл бұрын
First, remove the rear facing amber, it overrides red and blue from a distance. Second have all red one side, all blue the other side so they don't look purple from a distance. Third have better quality, brighter lights. Lastly make sure only ambulance, fire, police only use red/blue, other agencies like tow trucks should be using amber only.
@jrftworth3 жыл бұрын
These riser lightbars are total junk and completely useless. When a motorist approaches a patrol car equipped with em they don't know what they're being directed to do. All they see is a myriad of flashing lights. Arrow sticks or lightbars with a flash pattern that goes right to left or left to right is far more effective and equally as visible
@flightparamedic505 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Your comment is spot on. Was nice to see someone who understands how the lighting should work.
@SuperNytube3 жыл бұрын
The regular modern NY Trooper car lights are so bright that you're unable to see anyone on the scene so you slow down(sensible humans). But those elevating lights have been used by the nypd and fdny for years and they are really good. You can spot the police car a lot further away and over some obstacles when those light bars are up. Good luck and be safe NYSP.
@OldLordSpeedy6 ай бұрын
Why they not show it how looks on day and night from the back side of the car? But if I am correct the Police stay behind the car how they stopped and the parking lane is free of cars normally. So why the driver can not see the police car parking there with many lights on?

Seems like some value, but the random flashing is not helpful with the very distracting and confusing 'dancing' flash sequence. For best information transfer and motorist signal the bi-lateral symmetrical coordinated or sequential flash patterns are essential. They reduce the workload of the on-coming driver to assess the scene and react quickly and appropriately. See here (the ambulance in the first few seconds): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9VjiKie28DHnps.html

You know I can really appreciate the fact that you know people are trying to keep first responders and all that safe with these newer bars especially for the police and state troopers in that but when it comes to it things may change and things may get a little bit better but when it comes right down to it you can do all that but it should be app to the responsibility of that driver to pay attention to what's going on on the streets And if they can't then something needs to be done with that other than making vehicles more safer more easier to see when they're on the side of the road if people cannot take the responsibility and do what they're supposed to be doing when they're driving then in my opinion they have no business driving at all if they don't care they can't care they get too many distractions and their vehicles whether it's listening to the stereo Their cell phones texting whatever it is whether school buses or what if people cannot take the responsibility seriously enough to realize to get the driver's license is earned it is not gthen in my opinion they don't need it And it's the same way with me if I feel I can't respect the rules of the rules of the rules of the rules of the rules of the rules of the rules of the rules of the rules of the rules of the rules of the road and be responsible and do what I'm supposed to do then I would feel the same way I don't need to drive either and me being a type one diabetic I gotta be careful anyway but still there's just way too many people out there that just don't have a care or respect for anything

NYPD and NCPD highway patrol have been using riser bars for the past 40 years. In bumper to bumper traffic these light bars are noticeable over the vehicles infont of you. And the prices difference isn't that much. NYSP is looking to put them mostly on their traffic enforcement units.
@burkanx5546Ай бұрын
Japan's hydraulic retractable lightbars lift up way higher than this and are way, way noticeable as the lightbar it's self lifts up about 5-7ft up high under the scissorjack-lift. Not just that, due to it's simply the lightbar, no small led lights like as seen here: they are way more noticeable.

Move over laws are fine and I agree that motorists should move over whenever possible and it’s safe. However, these troopers need to use some common sense and realize that there are times when you just can’t move over when traffic is heavy and there are vehicles traveling in the next lane. I don’t think we need to create bigger hazards than we already have.
@778956 ай бұрын
I think when it comes to the regulations on how much it cost to pay the ticket probably should be a little bit more and maybe a day or 2 in jail but it's not that people don't respect the law it's when you're really coming right down to it in spite of what that trooper said a lot of people have gotten so they just don't care and when they get pulled over or something happens they're like oh you don't have anything else better to do And in my opinion from what I saw from those new light partner I hope they're a little bit brighter because during the day especially when the sun's going down or coming up yeah it can blind drivers cause it would make it hard to see those kind of lights so I hope they make them a little brighter but it seems to me that no matter how many lights a cruiser has a fire truck has or even an ambulance They just don't get it

How is it a waste of money? They probably cost just as much as their regular lightbars. It's not like they're replacing the lights on existing cars, just issuing new cars with this lightbar.
@thatbluefa59133 жыл бұрын
No its not. You think its fine when you're not the one servicing a car on the side of the road until youre the one actually doing it. Its sketchy and ive had too many people almost hit me.
@jrftworth3 жыл бұрын
@@hoodlambo not sure what these cost but they're likely more expensive. They incorporate moving parts which over time requires more maintenance. Lastly these riser lightbars do absolutely nothing to effectively notify drivers to move over as they approach an accident scene. They're just useless as hell. A standard LED lightbar with a flash pattern that can go from left to right and right to left is what they need.
@davida.p.99112 жыл бұрын
What if traffic is extremely heavy? I guess they expect you to sideswipe the car in the lane next to you, muscle your way over, cause ANOTHER wreck to which the police will be called to the new wreck and put MORE people's lives in danger. Wash, rinse, repeat......they should footnote this story with "move over IF it's safe to do so, OTHERWISE, slow down", which is the law we have in our state which is more reasonable.

This law is really stupid and boils down the common sense. I have seen countless people at a busy time. When they cannot move over that people have actually have locked their brakes in the middle of an expressway where the speed limit 65 and slow down the 20 to move over and almost caused other accidents. This law is stupid and is causing more accidents than it's preventing. They should state in the law or at least advise people. If you can't move over, slow down, but not to twenty in a sixty five mile an hour highway, this is causing far more accidents.
