In the early 90s, I was employed by a notorious scrap merchant to demolish the old crusher plant. That is a whole story in itself, but I wanted to relate that I got to explore the old carpenter's workshop when it was 'abandoned' and I saw that mechanical display. It was at least 7 metres long. and underneath was this amazing arrangement of gears and wires that made the figures move. The whole building was (and I hope still is) a snapshot in history.

Thank you so much for this video. Fred Cole (11:35) was my grandfather. He was a very well-known and much-loved man in Mount Morgan, and certainly carved his niche in Mount Morgan's history. He passed away in the early to mid 90's. To my knowledge, this is the only video footage existing of my grandfather. I have photos of him, but I never dreamed I would ever get to see a video of him, and to hear his voice again, for the first time in about thirty years. Do you know if there is any more footage of Mr Cole that was perhaps not edited into this video? If so, I would love to see it. Thank you for reviving fond memories of my grandfather. (The Mine) or after 1882 known as Mount Morgan Gold mine was a 99 yr land (lease ) from (The Mine) which started in 1704 the Convict Colony of Australia, which supplied minerals to the British Empire, and the 13 penal colonies in American and one penal colony in Australia (NewHolland ). The Mine was abandoned and (sold in 2013). The Foundation Act of Australia of 1787

The pollution and land scarring in the area is disgusting. The history is fantastic… but the area has been pretty well fucked by mining
