Directive 4 was, in fact, mentioned in the very beginning of act 2, when Morton asked him his prime directives. He lists the three that Morton was expecting, but "Directive 4: Classified" was flashing in Robo's field of vision.

One reason I love this movie is that even though the director respects the story and characters and never cheapens them for laughs, there IS a ton of satire wrapped around it. The happy-talk news anchors, the idiotic TV shows ("I'd buy that for a dollar!"), the commercials (6000 SUX, Nuke-Em, etc.), and the bizarre police/corporate symbiosis all take aim at the late-80's zeitgeist with hilarious effect. I live in Dallas where the movie was shot, so there's an extra layer of fun in seeing familiar Dallas landmarks in "Old Detroit," especially since the OCP headquarters is actually Dallas City Hall with a matte-painted tower added on top. So, yeah. It's not a spoof, and it doesn't disrespect sci-fi, but it's definitely satirical in addition to telling a compelling story well. (I also never understood the deal with Dick Jones's stretchy arms at the end. Part of me thinks it's a flaw, and part of me thinks it's on purpose, but I've never been able to figure out why.)
@marknash65
@marknash65 9 ай бұрын
I'm a little bit inclined to think the stretchy arms may be intentional, as there's no way the director wouldn't have noticed how weirdly long they were. It's hard to miss, and he would have viewed this footage dozens (if not hundreds) of times during editing. My best guess is that nearly every death scene includes an element of dark humor in it, and we feel differently about the dark humor depending on who's dying. Sometimes it makes it more horrifying, sometimes it leaves us with mixed feelings, and sometimes it adds to the sense of vindication.

Right, I did make points on how it's not a satire, I didn't think of the tv anchors etc... you are right, but it respected the story so I can't call it a spoof. I guess this franchise comes with satirical elements. maybe from what I received from seeing Robocop fight Ninjas this one was very serious in my eyes. those linguine arms too funny. "Detroit" ha-ha location in movies is always shifty. thank you for your comment.

Robocop predicted the future in multiple ways. Robocop's USB spike predated USB drives by 9 years. The DVD-R Bob got from Dick Jones predated them by 10 years and the privatization of public services.

A LOT OF PEOPLE miss the looming doom for Murphy when Bob Morton explained his RoboCop project to the old man. Especially when he said he restructured the police department and PLACED PRIME CANDIDATES ACCORDING TO RISK FACTOR. The movie took pains in the first sequences to explain Murphy was transferred because of OCP. And no it's not cheesy when Emil recognized him because not every policeman say that phrase. Awesome reaction, nonetheless. 👍

I think what makes this movie GOAT'd is the space it sits in the 80's aesthetic place. It's super 80's, but just a little future. It's super punk, but coorporate, and it leans into consumerism I think. It's the same type of universe I imagine Cyberpunk living in, Streets of Rage, or anything that's just a little retrofuture but hella grimey. Robocop is futuristic as a hero, but honestly, human beings are waaaay more mobile. He's this slow, built for firepower only UNIT. Like a VHS player from 85' at goodwill that weighs 50 pounds -- lethal. I like that the human program was only considered after the all AI/Machine version straight up kills someone. They were so focused on the money aspect, they just glossed over the human element. And the goober in charge of the more humane alternative was that limp noodle VP who got blown up by red foreman from that 70's show lol.

They decided on full body prosthesis, which likely means little more than his brain remains. While you didn't say it, many point out that they left a weak spot with his face, but it's likely it's not a weak spot. The most vulnerable parts would be his eyes as he would be blind if they got damaged, but the face including his eyes is probably as artificial as the rest of him and his brain is well armoured. They only left him with a face so his look suggests a human underneath and not to creep anyone out if they have to work on him without the helmet. BTW, it wasn't his first day in the force. he was transferred from another precinct, although they did welcome him to hell, so he might have underestimated the danger there. Most of the criminals we see look more like psychopaths and that seems the main reason for them to turn into criminals. Making money seems to be a secondary motive.
@randomlyreactandreviewfirstEzy
@randomlyreactandreviewfirstEzy 9 ай бұрын
yeah, his body was well protected, those cops put all the bullets in him. I did say when Murphy arrived that he was from a different precinct. If it wasn't about the money corruption is what Dick jones and Clarence lived for. thanks for your comment.
@hackerx7329
@hackerx7329 8 ай бұрын
If you pay close attention you can see the scar on the skin on his forehead from when Clarence had shot him so that was his real face. They also said the food paste was because he had a "rudimentary" digestive system to sustain his organic systems. Presumably that means he isn't equipped to chew and digest more complex foods. I don't think the movie ever specified what other organic parts he had inside the armored torso but presumably there had to be at least one lung to oxygenate the blood for the bran, itself, and any other remaining organs but the film did make it clear that artificial hearts were not a problem. There also has to be oxygenated blood blow and nutrients supplied to the skin for the face to keep it alive but give what the back and sides of his head looked like I would guess the skin is sitting on top of an armored skull and shooting it with anything short of the giant guns from the end of the movie would only damage the skin so it isn't a real vulnerability and the eyes were shielded.

P.S., you get used to the idea that when you're part of a megacorporation like OCP, you're only as valuable as long as you bring something to the company. Since no one mentioned it, (unless I missed it) to answer your question about the gun it is a heavily modified Beretta 93R which has semi-automatic and three round burst fire modes. In-universe its supposed to hold 50 rounds but the real gun uses a 20-round magazine. It is chambered in 9mm both in-universe and in reality. Though in the movie its supposed to fire armor piercing rounds which do not really exist in that caliber.

|On the first viewing of ROBOCOP, Many viewers are shocked both by the graphic violence, but also the lack of humanity, which stays through out the film, it can take a while to understand that this is the BIGGEST point being made de-humanisation, the film is only a small extension of the reality of life in the 80s, which was an Arctic Winter, for the minority that was there, when it all peaked come the end of the decade, & again now in the developed World, were heading towards Fascist elected Governments, again

out of millions upon millions of police interactions every year they only kill a handful of 'unarmed' people, and if you actually read those individual cases the vast majority are justified in that the person was a direct danger to others or using something as a weapon like a vehicle. its actually an amazingly tiny ratio given how many police interactions there are total.

It's not just a handful by a long shot, and the rate of police shooting unarmed Black folks in this backwards country is 3 times higher than that of unarmed white folks. Unfortunately, the police tend to be glorified in many Hollywood movies, when in reality a lot of them don't deserve the accolades. The bad ones make life so much harder for the good ones.
