O Canada is the national anthem of Canada. The song was originally commissioned by Lieutenant Governor of Quebec Théodore Robitaille for the 1880 Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day ceremony; Calixa Lavallée composed the music, after which, words were written by the poet and judge Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. The original lyrics were in French; an English translation was published in 1906. O Canada is a poem, even an epic poem. To really understand O Canada, you must listen the French version. The lyrics in French, are : Ô Canada! Terre de nos aïeux, Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux! Car ton bras sait porter l'épée, Il sait porter la croix! Ton histoire est une épopée Des plus brillants exploits. Et ta valeur, de foi trempée, Protégera nos foyers et nos droits. Protégera nos foyers et nos droits. And an English translation of this poem is : O Canada! Land of our ancestors Glorious deeds circle your brow For your arm knows how to wield the sword Your arm knows how to carry the cross; Your history is an epic Of brilliant deeds And your valour steeped in faith Will protect our homes and our rights, Will protect our homes and our rights. Now, you may understand what we sing in French; it is a beautiful poem in memory of the French people who come to Quebec from 1608 up to these days. It is now the land of our ancestors. My family arrived in Quebec in 1637. So, Canada is really the land of my ancestors for the last 10 generations.

I had the chance to be part of the recordons (one of Those people in the French group). I must say that the whole experience was awesome. Could truly feel a sense of solidarity and unity when we recorded this and I believe the producer did an awesome job.

Wow, when I was a kid they used to play this when the local station was going off the air and when it was coming back on in the morning. They have since replaced the opening and closing with something else. Now that I'm seeing this today, I recognize many more faces than I did back then, since I have learned who many of these people are. It was quite amazing and nostalgic finding this again, especially after just recently returning from a trip back to my hometown.

Strong, powerful and kind, that is Canada I immigrated to. I love you Moncton, New Brunswick but I will never forget Sackville, NB for their kindness, especially Mount Allison University. It's exactly passed 30 years, and do you all believe, that Canada itself has really become better, comparing with these good old days? I'm a South Korean, and sbout 20 years ago, I went for a bachelors degree in Vancouver. I lived there for 4 and a half years, and it's also true that I peacefully lived there, although I sometimes have a nightmare even now, that I'm put on academic probation again, at a community college in North something. In anyhow, I truly wanted to get a permanent residence, as I never hated this country, but I must have gone to Beijing to learn Mandarin for my specialisation, and gone back to my country for my certain bread. I still think, that it's totally impossible for me to live in Vancouver again, but at the moment lately, I'm listening to this song very often, and I still cook perogies and cabbage rolls every winter, as there's no Superstore on my doorstep.
