Story Behind the Song
What if Bach wrote O Holy Night? Then THIS angel would have to sing it.
O Holy Night has graced Christmas for 170 years since its inception. It has earned a place among the greatest carols of all time. But such fame can breed vapid familiarity. 170 years of airtime can acclimate the ear so much that we may not feel the Holiness of O Holy Night as perhaps we once did. Unless, perhaps, its transcendent lyrics were cast into a new mold? A mold created by, none other than, J.S. Bach.
We hope this unity of O Holy Night’s lyrics and Ave Maria’s melody opens your ears and heart to the inspiration woven into each line of its immortal meaning:
“Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth…
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn...
O Night Divine! When Christ was born.”
Some subjects are so sacred that it takes an extraordinarily gifted and virtuous person to perform them properly - in a way that is so authentically radiant that as we listen it draws out the light inherent in each and every one of us.
Presenting the precocious, the radiant, earth angel, 15-year-old, Lexi Walker -- an incomparable voice attached to an inimitable heart.
We filmed this video in the middle of the night on tour between two shows at Tuacahn. The stars shone brightly, the river flowed peacefully and we simply let the stillness of the night do the performing for us. Merry Christmas no matter the time of year or circumstances that brought you to this piece!

Last Christmas Eve, my little brother died very suddenly. He was such a massive fan of your music. The two of us went to one of your earlier shows in Boston with my mother. We were fortunate enough to meet you and have a picture taken - It's a memory I truly cherish. Your music never fails to evoke true emotion in me. This song breaks me down in tears, but simultaneously brings me relief. It's a reminder of the happiness my little brother brought me. Thank you. Merry Christmas.

I work hard all day long, foundry work, standing beside 2800 F molten iron. I hate the society of neglect to holy standards! When hearing your music it brings back the seconds i actually heard real angels praising God. What perfect music, she is a angel, beautiful, the musicians are members of Gods chorus all praising God. Your music lifts my soul and brings me to my knees in tears to realize what worship will be in heaven.

I think both have their place! I love music like this, I’ve listened to this over and over today. But this wouldn’t exactly hype me up to work out really hard at the gym. Same as I wouldn’t listen to main stream music while trying to fall asleep or maybe even studying. Diversity is important in all ways! Like how we need people to be different, how we can’t appreciate Joy without pain. The world was meant to be filled with contrast ❤

She's very good, I'll give you that. Maybe it has to do with the fact that she's singing lyrics that weren't designed for the tune, making some of the phrasing a bit clumsy, but I did notice a couple of breaths where they didn't belong. Oh--and in "yonder breaks," I missed the "ks" at the end. Not saying I could have done better, though.

This song came to me for the first time when I opened my brand new Christmas CD as we decorated for Christmas this last week. As a soprano opera singer, “Ave Maria” and “O Holy Night” are not only songs I have sung many hundreds of times, they are two of my favorite songs ever written. As the song began, I absently chose an ornament to hang on the tree and stopped in mid-motion, arrested and unprepared for the impact your music would have upon me. I sat, transfixed, as the splendid and masterful melding of these two beloved songs began. And then Lexi began to sing, and tears rolled unchecked down my face. I was carried to heaven on the tender, gorgeous tones of her voice atop the spectacular piano and cello arrangement. I closed my eyes in pure reverence at her last note, still weeping. I looked down, and I was holding an ornament engraved with the saying, “O, Holy Night.” I felt like angels had come into our home to bless our Christmas. That will be a moment I will never forget for the rest of my life. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for creating such reverent and glorious tones of worship to our Lord and Savior. May we remember Him and His message every day of our lives. Blessings and unending gratitude to each of you, and all our family’s best Christmas wishes.

God has given her such a clear voice. And she can play with this voice. And the high notes are not a problem. How easily everything is sung!!!! Not plumply into the high notes, but very carefully and gently. And yet with power.

This recording is beautiful, but I heard her sing in the Piano Guys concert last week and it was absolutely STUNNING! It was so gorgeous live, it touched my heart on a level recorded music can't. Lexi has a brilliant future ahead of her. She's really refined her talent in the past few years- I wasn't expecting to be moved that much! If you can go to their concert, it's so worth it!

I have been a horrible person for at least half my life until i found God this put me to my knees in tears and when i do arrive at heaven when i get there i have always pictured a beautiful Angel singing this and you have been the closets thing on earth that compares to it and i have walked this earth for more than 30 years absolutely amazing and God bless you

I don't care how busy I am at the time, but if I were to ever walk by as she sang in public or something, I would stop and listen. Her voice is like therapy to the soul. She emits such pure heavenly sounds that it renders me completely unable to walk away as she sings. I have had several favorites over the years but I honestly have never heard anything so pure and wonderful. I cannot fathom anyone ever sounding better - except perhaps her future self.

Guys, you have outdone yourselves this time. Both sad and joyful tears here as I lost my mom 10 years ago on November 16 and she requested that I sing the Ave Maria for her funeral, and O Holy Night is both my favorite Christmas Carol and Mom's favorite for me to sing at Midnight Mass each year. Thank you for combining these two pieces in such a moving and beautiful way. Lexi joining you has indeed created a very beautiful, powerful, and moving moment. May you and yours have a happy, healthy, and blessed Holiday season. You have definitely blessed mine.

True story...My family absolutely loves Piano guys and I was playing their KZfaq mix and this starts and I'm in the kitchen thinking that is beautiful, and couldn't place the voice and my 7 yr old son has my phone all to himself and I get closer and he wouldn't give up the phone for me to look (he was hogging it to himself) I think he was captivated to say in the least. 😊🎶😍 my kids are growing up to appreciate good music. Very beautiful arrangement!!

I admit I shivered from the first note. WOW, wow, wow. Your love for Christ and His truth is evident in your performance here. I also think of my late maternal grandfather as "Ave Maria" was his favorite song and am reminded I will meet him someday when I get to Heaven myself. Thanks for the beautiful reminder of the Reason for The Season- Jesus- and the hope we have in Him!

I first heard this, in my mind I saw Mary, the saviors mother, singing. She was looking at her son, then looked up at the sky, sang this. What a beautiful song, talents, video. Lexie to me, represented Mary. Beautiful and touching. Love love love

What I find amazing about her voice is the nearly effortless ability to change her timbre from a typical singing voice to operatic. It’s a mesmerizing momento of power, and I truly feel bad for the comment I had made here roughly a year and a half. Music should be heard and not judged by how close a singer’s face is to the camera. Sorry...

Today is July 1st; obviously a long way from the last or the next Christmas. Nevertheless, this rendition of O Holy Night fills me with hope and warmth whenever I hear it, in any month of the year. I had the indescribable blessing of hearing this in person at a Piano Guys concert many years ago. CHILLS and tears. What a moment. Lexie Walker’s voice is angelic. Jon Schmidt and Steven Nelson play their instruments with such skill and mastery. 5,343,877 views to date. I’m proud to be responsible for many of those. 😁🥹🥲❤️
