You know what my favorite part about this lesson is? By adding more and more filler strums and the emphasis on decreasing the empty space, you’re drawing a direct line between beginner, melody-only playing to more intricate “now we add chords,” to this, and then you can see - the potential is RIGHT there - to do Kimo Hussey-ish self-accompaniment. By adjusting the mentality ever so slightly from “filler” strums to “rhythm” strums, players are there. And oh my god what a challenging leap, right? Especially when this kind of lesson is so rare in the uke world or where filler strums are used as sparingly as possible. The gradual ramping up in this song alone - not to mention the back and forth between melody and filler - feels like a primer and a stepping stone that… well, it felt like it wasn’t there before. Yes, some instruction uses filler strums, but this is way heavier on them and it’s a valuable skill to have. And absolutely an invaluable middle step toward Hussey-ish greatness. I can’t wait to learn this arrangement for myself.
