NEW CD OUT NOW: ben-maton-music.square.site/p...
We face a big problem with the diminishing number of organists and lack of good pipe organs. Many are now, sadly, being replaced with recorded music.
I hope this video inspires you to enjoy the sound of organ, mighty hymns and beautiful church architecture, with the help of another of my very FAVOURITE hymns...
More videos on the way, feel free to subscribe to stay up to date.
Visit my website www.benmatonmusic.co.uk for more info on me, my work and the wonderful ancient church of Sarum St Martin, Salisbury, UK where this film was recorded.

Oh Lord, my God When I, in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder Thy power throughout the universe displayed Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art And when I think that God, His Son not sparing Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing He bled and died to take away my sin Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart Then I shall bow, in humble adoration And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art How great Thou art, how great Thou art

God wouldn't understand if you didn't speak in really crude broken middle English. He's most greatfull for all the thou''s and thee's. And of course he'd never have guessed how wonderful and fantastic he is, without humans to inform him. Surely such a magnificent being needs all the ego massage he can get. 😆

This was my father's favorite hymn, and he requested it be sung at his funeral ( before he died, obviously! ) A talented baritone sang it. Dad was a forester, and the words spoke to him directly. Thanks for playing it. ☮️

This is one of my absolute favorite hymns and I think one of the best versions I have ever heard. I've heard a lot of hymns in my day having sung in church choirs since I was 15. I am 63 and still singing in a little church in Florida that needs musicians. I've asked God to allow me to keep singing for His glory for as long as He wishes it. You have your life ahead of you which is providential for everyone. Deo Gratias.

I stumbled upon your videos…..since I can remember I had a deep love for organ music. No other instrument can lead a congregation in worship to sing the praises of our Lord and Saviour like the organ. I personally prefer organs like this one, where the organist is fully in charge of the instrument and not a computer. May our Lord bless you abundantly for this work of love

I first heard this hymn when sung by a Pentecostal woman with her friends in Denton and a Roman Catholic contingent led from Blackfriars, Oxford. It gives me the shivers and I cry as it reminds me of those days as a Roman Catholic French Canadian Québec Rhodes Scholar in 1970 or so. Now I sing it in church at Saint Aloysius in Montréal. Thank you so much and may God bless you and keep you.

It seems like there has been a tremendous increase in the number of younger people playing the organ since the Hauptwerk platform appeared and it became affordable to have a home organ for practice. A high school organ student of mine recently competed at Baylor University along with 9 other high schoolers, and not only didn’t he win, he didn’t even place 2nd. He played the Bach G minor fugue and the Boellmann Toccata both from memory. The level of competition was incredible. All that to say, I believe the organ is once again on the rise in the world.

It is a travesty, pure vandalism and a criminal act to discard perfectly restorable historical pipe organs in exchange for either inadequate electronic substitutes or ‘Pop Groups’ and recorded music. I am speaking as a professional organist in Hull who has been more of less forced out of my post at a church who favour worship songs and have no interest in organ music or maintenance.

Really enjoying the series from this young and talented organist....as Ben says, organs and organists are being demolished....maybe it’s cheaper for the priest to turn up with his phone, plug into the house PA and just run the backing tracks? I used to be a organist /choir director at a large parish church but after years of developing the choir, creating a good reputation for providing music etc. for wedding and funerals plus all the hidden values of bringing together people around the music life of the church....then in comes a young new priest who had no interest in music...it didn’t take long to take it down....Christmas is coming....I bet they regret it when they want their carols sung?

It is sad to see wonderful organs go to the tip, but perhaps there'll be a re-emergence of synthetic (Hauptwerk type) organs. I'm in 2 minds about it - because I am very sentimental about real pipe organs, at the same time I sort of see that (quality) digital organs are just progress - much like electric cars are replacing combustion engines.....

While I love the organ and the way Ben plays the old hymns that I love, please read Psalm 150 before you write off more :modern" forms of worship. Perhaps the "hippie with guitar and tambourine " is the original format of worship after all.

@mattbowman5450 to "get 'em" wasn't my aim. I just wanted to point out that worship music has changed over time. As Ben pointed out in one of his videos, before the advent of the organ, worshippers were led by a band of musicians who then became obsolete. I also felt that using the bible verse, "Jesus wept" was inappropriate in this context.

@@Anagrams458 you’re right and thanks for calling me out here! if you saw my reply to another similar comment on this video you would’ve seen me say the exact same thing you’re saying here. Further to my previous comment regarding modern music in the church. I must admit to liking quite a few of the moderner hymns, some of which are “Organ Friendly”. Because some of the words in them are extremely worshipful and meaning. What I do not like is the ones which are “Happy Clappy” and create almost hysteria in a congregation. Also I cannot abide “Jazzed Up” versions of some well loved traditional hymns for the sake of making them more attractive to the modernists. I am all for our evangelical mission, to spread the word, but to destroy reverence by pleasing the “Crowd” is a move too far in my opinion. The last time I watched BBC Songs of Praise, I thought I was watching a Variety Show or Pop Concert!!!
