Elaine Hagenberg's "O Love," published by Beckenhorst Press. Recorded March 2023 by The College of Wooster Chorus. Lisa Wong, Director; Toni Shreve, piano; Andrew Sords, violin.
Hello fellow Wooster Choristers from someone who was in school with your dear accompanist. I just got to sing this last year with our Youngstown choir, and it really tugs at my heart every time. The author of the poem composed it for his sister when she was being married. He had been denied wedded bliss with his fiancé years earlier when she broke it off upon learning he was going blind. Queen Victoria invited him to preach and admired him. The publisher is based in Columbus in the area where I now live with my Wooster sweetheart of forty plus years. I love that the text is nonsectarian enough that perhaps it will be able to be appreciated by those of other faiths. Keep up that good Wooster Chorus work! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
