What a sad ending for the greatest composer of all times in Hindi cinema. The music of O P Nayyar sahab will live forever in our hearts. The legend that was O P Nayyar will continue to rule us through his music. Whatever be the circumstances of his life post 1974, one thing was certain. He never bowed befoe anyone. in Hindi it can be said - नय्यर साहब अंदर से टूटे ज़रूर होंगे, पर कभी किसी के सामने झुके नहीं | Salute to this great composer.

I happened to know the family of Sri O P Nayyar. Myself & my elder son had the privilege of meeting him in Hyd at the residence of his eldest brother Lt. Col. (Retd) G P Nayyar ( a Dental Surgeon) My father & G P Nayyar Uncle were colleagues in the Indian Army as a Physician & a Dental Surgeon since 1950 & both settled down in Hyd city in 1968/69. It was in his house that I met Mr O P Nayyar who used to talk about his carreer & good life & later his bad days, in gay abandon but I could see the sadness in his eyes, nevertheless. I had the privilege of singing a couple of his compositions in front of him including चैन से हमको कभी आप ने जीने ना दिया। He appreciated that & asked me to sing freely & fearlessly. Singing before the one & only great OPN needed a lot of courage! There was a OP Nayyar Night being celebrated in Ravindra Bharati in Hyd & he invited me & my son. I met him a couple of times at GP Uncle's house. I knew their only sister too & had heard about their 2 other brothers, one who lived in India & another in Australia & had met his eldest daughter too in 1974 who was to get married but ultimately didn't. I was saddened to know about the later developments in OPN saheb's life & then eventually about his death on 28/1/2007. Sanghamitra Malik

शिशिर जी, आप हर शब्द आराम से और बहूत अच्छे से बोलते हैं। नैय्यर साहब मेरे प्रिय संगीतकार थे। उनकी सभी फिल्मों का संगीत लाजवाब है। मैंने उनकी अधिकतर फिल्में दो से ज़्यादा बार देखी हैं। फिर वही दिल लाया हूं यह फिल्म सभी दृष्टी से बढ़िया थी। उनके संगीत के कारण मैंने यह फिल्म आठ बार देखी थी।

बहुत ही दारुण कथा है नैयर साहब की. इंसान एक अजीब प्राणी है.. उसके मन का भटकाव उसे कहाँ ले जा रहा है कभी कभी उसी भटकाव का वह उपभोग करने लगता है. खैर उनका संगीत हमें और ज्यादा सोचने का अवकाश ही नहीं देता, क्योंकि हम उसी की मधुरता मे खो जाते हैं. बहुत उम्दा कड़ी

OP Nayyar was a master composer in his right....he never had any guru or training in music. But his music was something out of blue. Rafi- OP Nayyar - Shammi Kapoor was a fantastic combination of the Golden era of Indian cinema. A big salute!

आभार शिशिर जी, नय्यरजीके जवाँ उम्र के फोटो पहली बार नजर आये. आपकी जानकारी तो दिलचस्प है ही फिर भी कुछ और देना चाहता हूँ आपकी ईजाजत से. 1) बँटवारे के बाद पाकिस्तान से आये फिल्म संबंधित सभी कलाकार, संगीतकार, दिग्दर्शक आदि एक ना एक बार पाकिस्तान गये सिवा नय्यरजीके. उनका एक फैन पाकिस्तान एअरलाईन्समें.बडे ओहदेपर था. उसके आमंत्रणपर भी नय्यरजी लाहोर नहीं गये. वे कहते थे जैसे ही मैं लाहोर की जमींपर पाँव रखुँगा मेरी जान चली जाएगी इतना लाहोर मुझे प्यारा है. लाहोर की हीरामंडी जो मेरे दिल में बसी है अब नहीं रही. मैं यह सह नहीं पाऊँगा. 2) जिस कुटूंब के साथ वो अपने आखिरी दिनों रहते थे उनका नाम था नाखवा. 3) होमिओपॅथी का उनका अभ्यास था.

Shshirji आपका बहुत धन्यवाद.यहापर मैने बहुत सारे कॉमेंट्स पढे.भारत के सभी राज्योंके लोग हैं.लेकीन ओ पी सहाब के संगीत मे रुची लेनेवाले मे से मैं भी एक दिवाना हुं.ऑर उनकी जैसी ही मेरी बात है.मैं जब 12वी पढता था तो एकही साल मे मैने उनके संगीत से सजी 70 फिल्म्स देखी.उसमे कयी फिल्म्स 2बार 3 बार देखी थी.उनको घर जाकर मिलनेकी बहुत ईच्छा थी वो पुरी न हो पायी.लेकीन नय्यर जी के गानेके प्रोग्राम मे उन्से मिलकर टिकत के पीछे उनका हस्ताक्षर लीया.उनके जैसे महान कलाकार बार बार नही जनंम लेते.मैं भी 65 का हुं लेकीन एक बात जरूर हैं की उनके गाने सूनता हुं तो अपने आपको जवानी. मे ले जाता हुं.नय्यर सहाब को नमन 💐💐💐🙏

एक व्यक्ति के अपने कर्म, परिस्थितियाँ ही जीवन यात्रा में उसकी नियति के निर्णायक होते हैं। ओ पी नैय्यर जैसे प्रतिभाशाली संगीतज्ञ की उनके आखिरी दिनों में हृदय विदारक हालत को जानकर बहुत दुःख हुआ। हिंदी फिल्म संगीत में उनके अमूल्य अवदान को लोग हमेशा हमेशा याद रखेंगे। उनकी सृजनात्मकता..उनके संगीत की मिठास, मस्ती उनकी सारी कमियों पर भारी पड़ती हैं। नमन है उनको 🙏🙏 शिशिर शर्मा जी इस सुशोधित और आधिकारिक प्रस्तुति के लिए बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद! शिशिर जी। नय्यर साहब के संगीत का मैं भी बचपन से ही दीवाना हूं। उनके बनाए कई हिट गीत अपनी आवाज़ में रिकॉर्ड किए हैं। उनके जीवन में आई इस विनाशकारी उथल-पुथल के बारे में जानकर कितना दुःख हुआ कह नहीं सकता। आपका बहुत आभार 🙏🙏

Good presentation Shishirji. I met him several times and as he told me he never regretted anything in his life. Asha Bhonsle ruined his life as is known but he never mentioned that. His last great song was sung by Vani Jayaram....zulf lehrayi to sawan ka mahina aa gaya. Regards 😊 Dr Ashok Patnaik

I knew Op sahab. He invited me to hos hpuse in Churchgate ln Sharada building I had gone with a docter who was my freind, he happend to know Op sahab because docter was cobrother of Laxmiji of legendry Laxmikant Pyrelal. Op sahab and his music was rare fusion of Hidustani classical and Western plus Punjabi folk. His musoic will never die Long live OP sahab.

why we are blaming ashaji ? All information here very clearly says that OP ji was women lover and when things went beyond to the singing career, ashaji might be alerted herself and kept distance with op ji. If ashaji refused OP ji's love and desire then she was right......she had her own family and kids

For me God is music. Although I am neither a musician nor a singer,but for me music is O.P.Nayyer. At 71 I still go back to 17 when I hear his compositions. This gives me the real peace and all happiness back which I have lost in past 70 years.🙏🙏🙏

Rev Chander Shekhar Sir _ The same is the position with me I have grown enjoying his music when I was hardly six and now I am 73. Dear Shishirji, tears literally welled up in my eyes after listening to the heart-wrenching story of legendary music director O.P. Nayyarji as I have always been a diehard fan of my dear departed magician music director. Sadly, he went through all these hardships during his twilight years following disenchantment and acrimony that finally led to his estrangement from his wife and children. If this was not enough, they even dragged him to the court just for mercenary reasons. I cherish an infatuation for his peerless and feet-taping music. In all probability, it was the want of understanding among the family members who could not recognize this real genius, their patron and this only master of music. Legendary Ashaji owes her name and fame and career to Nayyarji who groomed her to this pinnacle of unmatched success but ironically, even she does not acknowledge it-After all, as they say 'Man Propose, God dispose! R.I.P. O.P.Nayyar!

Sahi farmaya, when family members kept Nayyar Sahib at bay, atlest ye farz ban tha hai ke Ashaji should have had given him all the happiness, but she her son dragged Nayyar ji to police station on money swindling allegation when she was closing and opening her affair with Pancham Daa. What an irony, Nayyar Saheb ke gaane nere bachpan ke saathi the. Long live his name n fame Nayyar ji.

I have watched several youtube videos of many people but I only like to watch Shishir Krishna Sharma as his information is the most authentic and obtained directly from a concerned person or through the most reliable people. Many a times he visits the place of person's office or resident and does not hids any information. Last but not least he does not add his own masala or imaginations but only facts. The last I saw OPN (at his insistence, I always called him "Babuji" as he was the same age my father), and also met his adopted daughter and the host family in Thane. They are wonderful people who treated him with affection and respect. That day, he had just returned from the Middle East but still spent a couple of hours with us. He reminisced about his past, and made no secret of his anger and bitterness towards the "culprit" who destroyed his life and his musical career. And, for her, he had choice words unfit to be repeated. He fondly remembered Geeta and Guru Dutt Ji, and expressed his regrets about his foolish choices and unwise decisions that ruined not just his but Geeta Ji's career. He was remorseful for not visiting Guru Dutt when the latter called and what proved to be his last desperate attempt to find some solace. After returning to the States, every Saturday, at pre-set time, I called him without fail. I just listened to him. He was sad and lonely, and full of regrets and remorse. He was fiercely candid, blunt and sarcastic...all at once. Hope it was cathartic for him. I was only happy that he was able to confide in me, and I never judged him. Our last conversation was in January of 2007. When I told him that we were coming to India in late January. He said "Ab tu jaldi aa ja. Varana tujhe khabar milegi ki tere Babuji nahin rahe." He passed away 2 days before our scheduled trip to Mumbai. After reading his obituary in the newspaper, my elder brother called me with the news. His words were: "Tere Babuji nahin rahe." How prophetic! 😭💔😭

@@RAJKUMARSHARMA-cg4nx No, the "culprit" he spoke of was AB. He groomed her, and built her career. Until then, she was nobody. Without him (and Rafi Saheb), she forever might have remained in the shadow of "Big Sister" as did Usha and Meena. What transpired between them was enough for her to go on a vindictive binge. No musicians were allowed to work for him because she threatened them with their livelihood. Good friends like Sébastien D'Souza (his arranger and that of Shankar Jaikishan) stood by him. But you need musicians; OPN detested synthesizer. His kindest words for AB were: "Woh shaql se bhi KalI hai, aur dil ki bhi kali hai." Well! Nothing like a woman scorned.

Downfall of OPN began when he fell off with Rafi saheb. Songs didi not click and Asha Bhonsle was smart to judge the coming situations. She smartly kept her relationship professional with him and moved on to RDB who was on the rise. As for any praise, she never praised anyone except for herself. Thanks for the information.

Mein O.P.Nayyar Sahib k music ka bohut hi bda fan hoon. Asha Bhosle jis k liye jinhoun nein apna sb kuch nichhaavr kr diya, is ko zameen se asmaan pr pohuncha dita aur jo nayyar sahib is ko jitna piyar kr te they kisi aur se piyar ka nayak shru kr liya, bohut hi Burma kiy hea, is ko sza is ko zroor miley gi. Us k ghr mein deir hea, a dheir nhin.

I had met him during his Virar days when he was living with Madhuri Joglekar. He was a great music director indeed , but ALL his near and dears were unhappy with him. It is very sad that such a talented and creative person that he was , had himself to blame for his sad end..... Very sad !!!

Indeed, it's fascinating! I've come across numerous reports of his rude behavior, possibly explaining the rapid breakdown of many professional partnerships. What's more, he openly expressed pride in making offensive comments about fellow artists like Lataji, Waheedaji, Manna Da, Mahendra Kapoorji, and Dilip Kumar. He even mentioned physically mistreating Ashaji in the pursuit of artistic excellence. It's a challenge to separate the artist from these troubling stories!

No doubt OP Nayyar ji was a master composer. A true legend who gave many memorable evergreen songs which we enjoy today also. There is no match to his style of music. Very sad to hear about his condition in later years of his life. Who is responsible? May be he himself. He took some wrong decisions. Trusted wrong people. Neglected his family. It is my feeling that Shamshad Begum & Geeta Dutt were instrumental in his initial success, he got established in Bollywood. Both have sung many memorable evergreen songs for OPN which we enjoy today also. But, all of a sudden, he stopped giving songs to Shamshad Begum & Geeta Dutt. He did not help Geeta Dutt when she wanted to resume singing and she was in bad need of singing to support her children after Guru Dutt's death. He was not moved by her condition also. He was thankless. OP Nayyar established Asha Bhonsle & helped her to reach the top. Also, legendary composer Ravi was also instrumental in Asha Bhonsale's success. But, till now, Asha Bhonsale has never acknowledged OPN & Ravi's contribution in her success. She speaks only of RD Burman's music as if her career started with him. She has totally forgotten (ignored) her earlier period of her career where she had sung better songs. Whatever: as we sow, so we reap. KARMA RETURNS. Karma does not spare anyone. Great respect to O P Nayyar ji, a legendary composer.

Shishir sahab, mere chahite muzic director ki antim avastha, kort kachahri aur PG banke gumnam rehkar guzarni padi -- padhke mujhe bahut dukh hua. Film industry ki yahi ek bat badi beraham si lagti hai. Kai 100 artist, pichhali zindagi me dukhi zindgi ke sath, akele besahara bankr jiye aur chal base. Ye sab padhkar, taajjub hota hai ki itni badi amir industry me ek bhi artist welfare ki baat nahi soch saka. Ek fund raise karta, jisse dukhi artisto ki madad ki jati. Ek bhi maika lal nahi hai vahan?

OPN mended Asha's career up to Himalayan heights but she is so thankless that today Asha never makes a mention of him rather calls him arrogant & selfish. Asha's behaviour & mean mentality agonised him to a greater extent. For the sake of name fame & career she married RDB quite younger to him. Very bad on the part Asha. She even never makes a mention of Ravi Khayyam & others who gave her iconic songs. OPN's grandson Anish Nayyar is in Canada & some time we contact each other on phone & discuss music in general & OPN in particular. My salutes to the great legend.

I became his fan after seeing/listening "sun sun" of Aar Par. A great music director who always gave hit numbers. He might be, in personal life, a rackless character to ruin himself at the end.
