My work bench is made of metal sheet, 2.5mm thick , and the edges are made out of "L" shaped metal rod. It is hard, sturdy and can hold heavy loads. It will last literally for ever.
The wall is made out of marine plywood, hard as a brick, it can hold all my tools and whatever I hang onto it.
You can easily hang a piece of wood, screw on the caps of glass jars, and organize all your nuts and bolts into different jars, so you'll have an easy vew of everything. Nice and tidy.
Into drawers you can organize your differnt wrenches and sockets and differnt metal tools, so you'll have an easy access to everything.
And always remember to put everything back where you took it from, so you won't have to search for it the next time you need it. In time, little by little, you'll get to know where everything is and where to find what you need.
Plumbing parts and power tools can be organized in cases. You can organize them onto racks, also made out of metal, and with a piece of simple plywood, to form the shelves. Just make sure the plywood doesn't get wet, and it will last for a long time.
Remember, don't throw anything away. Many power tools can be fixed and have a second life as something else. Even the lead from dead batteries can be melted and used for something.
CAUTION:
Be carefull of the fumes when melting lead, they are not good to inhale.
Keep everything at the same position, so you can find it easily.
Keep note of every tool you lend to others, so that you (and they....) won't forget about it.
In time, you'll form a large selection of tools for different jobs, so try not to lose them by lending them to others, and forgeting about them.
Keep everything nice and tidy, and you'll be an A class craftsman.
