Please try and save your blue cochin! When I see chicks struggling, I get their food wet and make sure they eat it. Also adding Nutri-Drench (vitamins) helps. Best of luck!

I received chick very similar in March. She was incredibly lethargic and had her eyes closed all the time. Along with save a chick I gave her egg yolk only for the first day then gave her mushy scrambled egg for a few days and now she’s the baddest hen in the yard. Wishing you good luck!

We're getting our first chicks tomorrow and this video was extremely timely. Please continue sharing their progress, including when things don't right. I see too many videos that make everything seem perfect and don't mention how to deal situations when things don't go according to plan. So happy for you! Congratulations Momma 😙 our Welsummer lays deep chocolate speckled eggs, you'll love them. She is also super loud and proud when she lays. Our Wyandott hen lays eggs that are between 60grams and 58 grams depending on the season.

Omg I’m obsessed with the polish chicks! Their all so cute. I had a handicapped silkie chicken, and she had a seizure last night and sadly passed away. Both her legs kinda stuck out to the side so she couldn’t really walk to well so we kept her inside.

Congrats on new chicks and new baby on the way!! (I live in Houston area of Texas, hot/humid) My mommy hen,,(not sure of her breed as she was a neighbor's) hatched 2 chicks, 1 on Monday & 1 on Tuesday. Thursday I bought 4 - 2 week old chicks from the feed store .. 2 Easter Eggers & 2 Light Brahams. Well of course Mommy didn't want the extra chicks (I was so hopeful!) She'd done well in Feb with her 1st hatching ..well not so good with her newest 2, seems she could care less, but she was overly aggressive the 4 feed store chicks.. Anyway I moved all six chicks to the top shelf of my coop. The chicks are all doing great & Mommy & her Feb baby (Gray Winnie) are going about their business like nothing ever happened..lol

You can fix the toes on that Polish chick...if you take a piece of light cardboard, like on a pad of paper or a business card, and cut a small "shoe" from it, then tape the foot flat on that. You can use medical tape, or you can use vet wrap. The chick only needs to wear the shoe for about 3-5 days. The sooner the better to correct those toes though, if you wait too long this method won't work.

I have chicks that are turning 3 weeks old your videos are so helpful mine were never that tiny though. I wanted all the types of Wyandottes, but we only got 3 silver laced all wyandottes are really pretty. Name the Rhode Island Red Rhoda , just an idea. Please keep us updated on your baby!

We had one of our blue Cochins arrive dead from the same hatchery 😞 I wonder if they had issues with that breed this year. The other one had terrible pasty butt but is doing fine now. All the speckled Sussex and buff rocks we got were super healthy though.

I just got five checks this week. 3 silver laced Wyandottes and 2 barred rock. All are supposed to be pullets but time will tell, lol 😂 I use the same chick starter and grit as you showed in your video.

My experience with birds is limited to raising cockatiels and budgies. Our dog, Rosie, would cry when one of our birds was on the floor. We clipped their wings and had them out on an open playpen. I'm hoping my chihuahuas will behave in a similar protective manner when I begin raising chickens.

I was told that you put stones or more like Rocks in their water container as the chances are they may drown if you put little rocks in there they have to put their beak between the rocks to get water I am trying this year to incubate my own chicks I've got 60 eggs in and they are due to hatch within the next few days let the fun times begin

I've heard you can scramble the chick, an egg. I've never had to do it, but it may be worth a try to save him, if he will eat it. Congratulations on your little belly too!

I've heard Rhode Island Reds can be aggressive and mean to some of the other more docile breeds. Are you planning to keep your Red with the Easter Eggers? Do you think they'll get along okay? I've not had chickens yet but look forward to getting some in the future and was wondering about the compatibility of the breeds!

Baby chicks need warmth. Not cool. An adult chicken needs lots of ice water and frozen treats

I read you should wait a few hours before adding feed and only give them water at first it's better for them to have plenty of water before eating.

This is a great video, about to get my first barred rocks, did you leave the lid off the plastic container when you kept the chicks in it, how long did you keep them like this before putting them in the coop? Till what age must the chicks use the brooding lamp? We are out in manitoba canada, gets quite cold here, and when would they go without any heating or do they need it all through life in the snowy cold?

And I have a Niece from my brother that my family and I adopted from South Korea he's married to my sister-in-law. That had a daughter. I love baby chicks I use to remember raising baby chicks that my teacher hatch some meat chickens oh boy i had 2 rooster that I wasn't happy about, I was hoping to have females chicks.

so apparently polish chicks are hard to care for, but I never knew this and my one polish is 5 years old and fine, this time we got 2 baby polish ladies. both died in 20 hours. I feel so bad but im not getting any more polish.

Paper towel! I wish this video was out before I received my chicks the were always getting bedding in their food and water. Since they are bigger now I have their food on bricks. Congratulations on your pregnancy, be sure to have a Doula whether you have a midwife for a homebirth or birthing Center or go to the house. Read The Birth Partner by Simkin its in its 5th edition. Please help!!! We have backyard chickens & we're from Alabama. I've been raising them for almost 3 years now & for the first time we've come across a bad problem. We have 3 hens that roost constantly lately, 2 will leave their roost momentarily but the one won't! I've had to put her food and water right there with her and the problem is.... She's been sitting on her egg pile that continues to grow and grow and grow and GROW to the point that now there's a pile that's no longer being sat on & they're way past 21 days and no baby chicks and they're stinking so bad!! But to try and move her off the eggs makes her fighting mad! WHAT SHOULD WE DO?? Please someone, anyone... HELPPPPPPPPPPP

Take away the eggs. She will fight you. It needs to be done. Then put her in a crate with the bottom taken out. This will cause air flow to the belly. Look up a broody hen. You will have to break her of her broodyness
