I’ve been enjoying your videos even though I keep marine fish. I was going to try one of these, I had a look at one in my local shop and wasn’t really impressed with it as there wasn’t that much space in them and they are designed quite badly so they don’t filter very well. There’s a guy on here called pond guru and he pimps filters to make them filter better. He had this filter and had to drill holes in it to make it filter properly. Ive had a look at the aqua one ocellaris 850 external filter and I really like it. I’m picking one up tomorrow. I like it better than my eheim Ecco pro filter. Keep up the reviews. There great to watch.

Hi, Cool thanks for watching I have also modded this filter was thinking about doing it a while then saw richards video however It is still only ok. 1st video of the mod kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msmaetuHlp2maI0.html and then the replacement kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLmJfcqX3r_FeoU.html . I ended up swapping it out for a hang on back filter as I got it mostly as a filter for a quarantine tank

Thanks for this. Really useful as I'm in the market for a new filter. Was thinking of one of these but is sponge media enough without ceramic (for a 90l tank).?And is it quiet (going in a bedroom to replace a Fluval U2 which is whisper quiet!)

Hi, i made another video about this it has some bypass issues i start to look at it on this video and i had to modify it a little kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msmaetuHlp2maI0.html after the mods its good and i put some decent bio media in so I honestly wouldn't recommend it even though it is fine with some mods you shouldn't have to. If i was getting an internal filter now it would be the Eheim Biopower range similar filter but does come with better media and doesn't need mods to stop it bypassing media. Also here is a link to the pond guru modding that oase the guy knows his stuff. hope that helps kel

I've got the one with 3 bottom bits, it seems to be strange as there are no holes to draw the water through the media, it doesn't seem to filter anything apart from in the top sponge, I haven't had any real problems with it but I just seems to not be doing anything with the 3 bottom parts :/ can you shed some light on it

Hi, I have had a number of people ask about this and I think the same it seems to bypass all of the media. It seems like there are some holes missing on the sides. However I have used it in my quarantine tank on multiple occasions with seeded media in and had no water quality issues. I am tempted next time I set up my quarantine tank to drill some holes in to see if i get more pass through. I will make a video of this when I do it will be a couple of months though until i'm quarantining fish

Hi, I couldn't hear what you were saying when you said you would cut the sponge in two pieces. What were you going to put in the middle? And one more question, isn't there a plastic nozzle you can put on the outflow so you can give direction to the flow? There is with the way simpler internal filter Oase bio 25 so I expected it with this one as well. I want to buy the Oase styleline 85 aquarium and the filter you're reviewing comes along with it. That's why I'm asking ☺️. Greetings from the Netherlands 👋

Hi. it was to put some ceramic media or something in the tray. and I don't think it has a nozzle however you can turn the dial on the top and it will return the water through the smaller holes above making it a spray bar and that will return in different directions

@@KelsAquariums hi Kel, thank you for answering! I hope the flow will be enough then to get the CO2 through the entire aquarium 🙂. Thanks for the video and I subscribed to your channel 🤗.

Hi Kel , im getting a new 120l community tank , would you reccomend this over the fluval u3 or u4? I cant decide between the oase and fluval. How is it getting on? Still running good? Cheers , keep up the quality videos.

Hi, I actually have both of the filters you are considering, I tend not to run them all the time I often use them when quarantining. I never liked the Fluval U4 its big and doesn't seem to hold much media. The Oase is better in my opinion but people have told me they have had issues with it bypassing the media a bit as the intakes seem to be to high on the back. I had no real issues with it and I like the fact a heater can go in the back so its hidden and the built in spray bar is good It is also modular so you can add more trays (i am tempted to mod mine when i next set it up with a couple of holes that would eliminate any bipassing). However both will work but If i was going to get another internal filter and the choice was those 2 it would be the Oase. I would also look at either the Eheim Biopower or maybe the JBL cristol profi i series both are also modular. Think if it was my main tank filter the Eheim would be my choice but i do like the Oase heater compartment a lot. hope that helps Kel

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g6ijpMd6ms_VhKM.html there is a pond guru video of him showing the bypass issues i mentioned in the previous post on the Oase and doing a very similar mod to what i mentioned :) just randomly got this suggested seems relevant

Kel's Aquariums thank you so much for replying , im not really good with DIY , will the Oase still be good without any mods? And also yeah the Eheim aquaball is good? Im looking for main internal filter , so what would you personally reccomend? I can only spend about £40-£50 , the Oase is £17 used and i would not mind buying an aquaball brand new. Let me know. I dont really want to get into externals just yet , so choosing to opt with internals for now

Hi, I wouldn't trust the Oase to run a tank with anything but low stocking levels unless you modded it a little. If I was buying an internal filter to run my tank it would be the Eheim Biopower www.eheim.com/en_GB/products/technology/internal-filters/biopower-240 they are good internal filters and come with very good media in the box they come in 3 sizes starting at around £33 to £50 I personally would get the biggest one you can as long as it is not to tall for your tank. it is just a better design than the oase as it sucks water in from the bottom and then through all of the media so you get no bipassing.

Can yoiu show the inside of a compartment - I do not see any opening into the compartment from the slots (the sides seem tobe solid). So I keep wondering how the water gets in where the sponge is.

Hi, You can see the insides on this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msmaetuHlp2maI0.htmlm9s I would however look elsewhere it has a lot of bypass I modded mine but its still only OK I do like the heater compartment but it doesnt make up for it bypassing media. I ended up replacing it. hope this helps Kel

I was looking at these today. is their any chance you could do a flow rate video?
@KelsAquariums
@KelsAquariums 7 жыл бұрын
Hi. It's actually in the tank and running with a couple of fish in. I will be putting a video of that tank up in the next hour or so. I will do another tomorrow so you can hopefully see the flow rate better as it's not what i was concentrating on :). I have it running on a 60cm long 45cm wide and 30cm tall tank and it seems good not to strong but enough flow for that size tank.

Really didnt like this filter the multi suction points means no flow though or targeted media absorption
