Boi ball by eheim is very good to be honest sub 100 litres I use a deep substrate and sponge but this all depends on what I am keeping in the tank I think Fluval "U" series are good also

eheim pickup 160 is what my son has in his 105 in the bedroom it has a very low hmm that is not annoying the bioplus has a higher pitched sound that irritated me although i got used to it

@@AQUAGUYUK Thank you so much for the quick response! After some research ive also found the same conclusion. Its either this one, the eheim pick-up or the fluval u2! Whats your opinion on the fluval u2?

@@Atoximed Funny you should mention i just took another look at these i have 4 different versions and found tweaking them with better media and more of it plus cutting your own sponges makes this filter formidable i did find the 3 and 4 a little noisy to start but dont notice them now so thumbs up they are a little expensive but worth it

also finest filters on amazon do near perfect foams and pads for these at a lower price

@@AQUAGUYUK Ah yea ive heard the same, ill probably modify them a bit! So which filter would be best in your opinion? This one has a build in heater which is nice, im not sure if the fluval has that! And this filter, you buy it once and just rinse it out or after x amount of weeks you should just buy a new one?

Also the whole bottom section pulls water in so there is no positive flow through the filter very strange

@@haitch04 Welcome keep me posted on the filter i use them quite a bit in other tanks and finest filters on ebay sell cheap replacement cartridges for them

Its a sponge system so would be bio and mechanical having said that you could use a section for a more specific media like matrix

Thats difficult to answer as most internals have the ability to hold biomedia also being a powered sponge filter is a very good idea

@@AQUAGUYUK Yea i decided and came home with a Fluval U2, i dont like internals too much but i got a good deal :)

If I only put sponge in my cannister filter it is just a sponge filter. You can reduce the size of one of the sponges and use media if you like or you can completely replace a sponge with media. It's a filter that can do bio, chem and mechanical if you set it up that way, that has a spray bar and heater all self contained.
