For me, it doesn't really work. The lyrics are just too flat and a bit basic - it misses out on some of evocative poetry that could really make it tug at the heartstrings. Don't go away, say what you'll say, say that you'll stay, forever and a day compared to God only knows what I'd be without you If you should ever leave me, well life would still go on believe me The world could show nothing to me, so what good would living do me

It's my favourite album - it's the album I listen to the most - I love the production - I love the length of the songs and the length of the album - a real feast - living in NYC in 1998 - I'd go into Tower Records on at 1:00am (yes in the morning mid week it was open on Broadway) and this was blasting out allover the 4 floors! Tower played it all summer - absolutely glory days - record shops open till the early hours of the morning blasting Be Here Now... Proper Hi Fidelity vibes!

I've honestly always loved this album..it came at just the right time for me..I was already a fan (I was only 12 and vividly remember my sister recording it from her CD to a cassette for me) I wore it out!! And as Ryan Adams once said its still one of my favourite albums to put on in my headphones after a big bong and go for a walk. 'I hope I think I know' will always hold a special place in me heart. Damn, I'll tell ya what I already felt old when I realised, 'up the bracket' (libs) is 20 today..this just makes me feel even older!! But the nostalgia when I put this on is still a happy kind..I don't even skip 'magic pie' 😅. I remember tryina tell me mates I could hear 'GnR' in 'My big mouth' . They laughed..I laugh now too, but I defo heard it then! Great to hear a deep dive into this man.

Woah, thank you!! Glad you're going to bat for this incredibly underappreciated album. It's absolutely the best Oasis record imo, their best both musically and lyrically. Might not have had the hits Morning Glory did but it blended the raw power of Definitely Maybe with some of the pop that Morning Glory did and it created a masterpiece. I love every song.
@MarlboroughBlenheim1
@MarlboroughBlenheim1 2 жыл бұрын
It really isn’t their best album and no one with any judgment thinks that. Definitely maybe and morning glory have better songs and melodies and lyrics and much of be here now was by Noel’s own admission filler and his quality control was non existent. It was a band on drugs with nothing to say at all hiding behind walls of guitars.
@stonecrestmovies
@stonecrestmovies 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarlboroughBlenheim1 I mean, lots of artists hate their own work. Rivers Cuomo hated Pinkerton for a long time and now that album is critically acclaimed. There are days when I feel Morning Glory is better and there are days when I like BHN more. I certainly like it more than Definitely Maybe.
@MarlboroughBlenheim1
@MarlboroughBlenheim1 Жыл бұрын
@@stonecrestmovies BHN contained songs that were either written when Noel wasn’t at his creative peak or had been written before but weren’t good enough to get on the first two albums. A lot of BHN is therefore filler, made on drugs, with some really poor songs. It shows no musical or artistic progression for the band at all. It’s made for people who like rock by numbers. That said, Don’t Go Away isn’t bad.
@MarlboroughBlenheim1
@MarlboroughBlenheim1 Жыл бұрын
@@stonecrestmovies I think when an artists says they couldn’t be bothered to put the effort in to a song and just cobbled it together and used filler from old songs not good enough to make the first two albums or b sides you know there is a problem. If Be Here Now was the follow-up album to Definitely Maybe then it would be an instant classic in most people's eyes. I think Noel wanted to separate himself from that album because it represents his last go at the immature drug phase of adulthood and wanted to naturally evolve away from that phase to be a a more mature positive role-model to his family.

The album is okay. Noel's 2016 remix of D'Ya Know What I Mean is really good. Had they applied that production style to the rest of the record it would have improved many things. Some songs are unforgivable tough - Magic Pie (!!!) Then on the other hand: the insane production makes the record iconic and hilariously funny at times. If you want a good comparison between two records that aimed for a colossal sound, listen to Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins and follow that up by Be Here Now. Butch Vig and Billy Corgan got it right. Owen Morris and Noel Gallagher got the coke - with foreseeable results :)

Hi James, I was interested in hearing the origins of Stand By Me. A friend of mine who was in a band in Liverpool in the mid-nineties sent a demo to Creation Records a couple of years before Be Here Now was released. The demo had a track called: 'Is this the Life' which has almost the same chord structure and melody as Stand by Me. The main difference was the second chord was a B7 instead of a Bm and the lyrics were not the same. However, if Noel heard this demo prior to writing Stand by Me, nobody that understands chords, could not deny this was a virtual copy of the verse and chorus. As far as I know, the band have had no desire to pursue this further. Personally, I like both tracks although preferred the demo version. I always wondered if this why Noel told unsigned bands to send their demos to Creation Records at the Brit Awards in 1996?

You must be joking right??! Do you really think that was his goal??! 😂 because after two of the most lauded and best selling, critically acclaimed albums ever... AND an album's worth of b sides better than most best selling albums, Noel needed demos from nobody bands crap four track recorders to make hits 😂 go an listen to something like Baby Come Back by The Royals then 'Life Goes On' by The Damned then Killing Joke 'Eighties' and Nirvana 'Come as you are'... Or James' video about things Noel 'stole'.... Or the whole Real People and Oasis thing... If your mate had a leg to stand on then he would have at least made noise about it at the time. It’s a grandiose, ill-fated, cacophonous lumbering beast of an album. It’s also glorious in stretches. I’ll stand by my assessment that “D’You Know What I Mean?” Is genius in the way “Pour Some Sugar on Me” is. And “”I Hope I Think I Know” and “Fade In Out” are Liam at peaks. But when you have 3 songs taking up 26 minutes near the end you give away that you’re searching for a moment that soars and couldn’t find it. The moment floats, even levitates, but they don’t get much higher than several feet. Noel is right that its a tough listen, needing a break to get through. But he should still be proud of it overall.

Strip back some of the infinite guitar backing tracks and some of the songwriting on this record is some of noels best. You can even hear the maturity level stepping up from the first two to this. Just way too over produced. If this album had been done with mainly acoustic electric sounds with orchestral backing - this would be talked about the same as the first two records

Maybe after the mega gigs in Main Road and Knebworth they would have just chilled for a few years and then come back with a new album...maybe Be Here Now was just too much They didn't want to lose momentum and have more success, but creativity suffers as a result

All the people saying Stay Young should've been on the album instead of I Hope I Think I Know - don't they both have the same guitar solo? Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere but would be pretty weird if both on same album

People are saying they wanted Stay Young instead of Magic Pie. And no, Stay Young and I Hope, I Think, I Know do not share a guitar solo. This is probably why you’ve never seen anyone mention it 😉

For me this was the last album to have a unique sound definitely maybe very heavy rock then morning glory had a perfect mix of rock with more ballad kind of songs and then be here now was never going to live up to it but was still a great album but from then I think every album following it seems like they weren’t as creative u can pretty much interchange all of them except a few songs and there isn’t a proper identity to any of them after be here now I’m a major fan but the original 3 albums and The masterplan were the Oasis I still listen to regularly and know all the chords and words but I think they kinda lost something along the way around 2000 almost like they went into autopilot and a bit lazy from then 90s Oasis is how I will always remember them as I lived it through my youth

aw man sotsog is so interesting tho.. some of their weirdest and most off the wall shit and some of my fav songs are on there. some of their worst are on there too for sure lol but whatever. i wish liam at least had leaned more into some harder weirdo shit the tracks he did with death in vegas and the prodigy are dope he has such a cool voice that i honestly feel was wasted on soulful ballads and all that lol

Stay Young is the best song from those sessions. Would have been an iconic track 2 and could have been on the LP in place of several other songs haha, Fade In/Out? Meh. Girl in the Dirty Shirt? That song screams b-side.

We could have had Stay Young, Going Nowhere, The Fame, ( I’ve Got ) The Fever and/or Flashbax and instead got Magic Pie 🤢

probably shot the interview and the commentary in a different order, interview first, learned whose it was, then shot the commentary and gave the new info, was just edited in reverse. or he just mispoke i mean its an interview ur put on the spot even as the interviewer and its such a small detail it rly doesnt matter in the grand scheme lol

Noel's continued slagging off of his drummers bugs me. Especially since in the same breath he will talk about how he and Owen Morris pissed away massive amounts of studio time and money on bullshit that never made it to the records, and his response to that is: "Well, that's just how it was..." But God forbid Whitey or Tony blow a few takes. That was unforgivable to Noel, who claimed he recorded a full orchestra through a single Fender amp or some nonsense like that.

Owen Morris said that Tony’s drumming was basic but he had perfect timing. The band weren’t as good after he was sacked. That’s my opinion anyway. I know a lot of people will disagree with me and that’s cool. It’s no coincidence that he was the drummer on the best album they ever made though!!
