Now in Germany and still soldiering on without Noel, Oasis play their first ever show in Leipzig, and the venue is one of the smallest on the entire European Leg, with the capacity only at 3,600. However, given Noel’s absence it would be interesting to know if people did walk out of the venues once they realised he wasn’t there. It wouldn’t be a surprise if that was the case, particularly in the bigger venues like the Filaforum in Milan or the Stadthalle in Vienna (which I believe wasn’t near full at all). Despite the circumstances the band put on another fine performance as usual, and yeah even though the lack of backing vocals in Acquiesce is still awkward, the rest of the songs aren’t really that negatively affected in my opinion. Perhaps this is down to the tape however, which does sound like it was recorded quite far back in the venue (most of Liam’s speech takes a few tries to decipher). I’d imagine they didn’t come back to this venue due to the echoey acoustics, which I wouldn’t be surprised about. Also unusual is the set only comprises of 13 songs. For some reason or another for about a fortnight, Champagne Supernova was once again taken out of the set. Liam struggled on it at Vienna, but perhaps that’s just one of many reasons on why it isn’t here. Despite it’s absence, the song was absent for the entirety of the North American Tour, and it didn’t seem to be missed then. Liam sounds improved over Vienna somehow, though his voice is still heading towards a more gruff and deep sound. A short one all things considered, but an ok performance along with it.
