I choose to set this flange slightly above the finish floor, which was a mistake. Since this video, I have reset this flange flush with the finish floor.

First off, I'd like to say, thank you good sir. This is exactly the process I needed. Secondly, I'd give 2 thumbs up if I could. This is my kinda video. No B.S. No fluff. Just action, and at a pace that anyone that should be doing this job, would comprehend. You are appreciated.

You didn't add any background music. Good. That newest like is from me! Good job!

This was very helpful to me. My new toilet recommended the flange to sit on top of the finished floor so this setup would have been perfect

Nice job man. Thanks for the upload. I have been known to beat a tapcon into its' final position with a hammer when they refuse to go in proper, you know, just that last little bit where they'll either break off or you'll have to pull it out & drill deeper. Ya, a hammer gets that last bit real nice.

Glad you liked it. It's amazing how many people have watched it. Just set up a camera and let it run. BTW, be sure to set the top of the flange flush with the finish floor. I tore this out and reset it.

Thanks for the video. This is exactly what I need to do!

In most of the flange replacements you would use a PVC Primer, and Cement. I can only assume with the rubber threaded black gasket, the PVC Primer and Glue are no longer necessary. This is the primary reason I was looking at this video...just to get confirmation that this was not needed. I guess I got it, but I didn't see it used here. I believe one could also use a product like liquid nailes rather than drilling the hole for the 4 screws into the cement. I think I like this better as the liquid nail provides more bonding area. But either way will work.

He sprayed something on gasket, not sure what. That's where a transcript or a verbal commentary would be beneficial, but great visual tutorial. Appreciate the omission of a corny drawn-out intro, lol. I'm not sure where CD is putting the liquid nails, the flange is already set. Thanks!

That seal is good I would have loaded silicone on the perimeter or the rubber. Also use a fat wax seal. First floors always overflow if the outdoor is clogged.

I guess you installed the bolts that stand up to attach the toilet when the cement (or mortar) was still wet. Otherwise, cement may be in the way when you install these bolts. Also, apparently in the past, the flange was set in place by PVC glue. It would seem the PVC glue would outlast the rubber gasket but it makes for easier install. Probably not a big issue however. Good video.

Was it set flush to the finished floor? Looks a little above. I just had one of these flanges break at the bolt slot and wondering if I should use again or just glue one in.

What problem did you face from placing the flange above the finished floor?
@highster4 жыл бұрын
Most toilets require that flange be flush with the finish floor to leave enough room for the wax seal.

can this be used for PVC pipe? it said for cast iron.

You set the flange flush so that the base of the toilet sits on the floor without requiring shims, correct?
@highster4 жыл бұрын
No shims on the toilet. the toilet is designed to sit flush on the finish floor so the flange should match the finish floor.

I bought a 4'' one of these for my 4" cast iron pipe, but I'm really struggling to get it to sit in the pipe. The rubber gasket rides up, rather than following the threads. Any tips?
@1stfiddlerman3 жыл бұрын
First twist the rubber gasket clockwise to make it just tight enough to fit snuggly into the pipe, insert the flange then continue twisting and see if it grabs the edges and secures. It should.

What where the sizes of the tapcon screws and the size of the holes that were drilled to fasten the flange to the mortar?
@ericpierce61273 жыл бұрын
i did this same exact thing 6 months ago. it just recently started leaking again. Do you guys have any advice on what wax ring to use? The wax rings that come with a cone dont seem to fit. The last time i took a wax ring with no cone and molded it to this specific shape. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@nathan52702 жыл бұрын
Use 2 wax rings without the plastic in the middle stack them on top if each other then u shouldn't have to worry about it

The problem is sometimes there is a gap outside the pipe and you don't have anything to drill into to hold down the flag. What is the liquid for? to do what?
@sirnatanielson6 жыл бұрын
Yo_zita to answer yours and and anyone else’s question. He poured quickset mortar around the flange to fill the gap. Then he used a hammer drill to drill out the mortar that is now set and then fastened the flange down with tapcon screws. Interesting solution. Working on something for my toilet now
@josephbohme79172 жыл бұрын
So the answer is misplaced. He put a clear liquid on the flange threads. We might assume pvc glue- or just a lubricant. The author was not clear. He also did not set the top flush with the floor. The gap under a toilet and the wax ring may be capable of A max of maybe 1/2" less space. Not too tight or your wax will break away.

what is the liquid compound you are using?
@highster7 жыл бұрын
I used a quick patch material similar to thin set mortar. Oatey would probably suggest that nothing is needed.

While I don’t need any music, some words about what you were doing would be amazing! Most KZfaq plumbers narrate the process, I bet a ton of other people would really appreciate it (besides myself :-) But I know when I do any plumbing, I’m mainly cussing 🤬
