Great review. I'm a fan of Teenage Engineering. I love the Op1, Op-Z is solid, and the Pocket Operators are fun, but I still haven't seen the whole vision with the OB-4. Especially at that price point and no aux output/ headphone jack.
@IliadScott2 жыл бұрын
@UnderBridge Rock disagree on the pocket operators, idk about the op1 tho. The op-z imo had easily the shittiest build quality of the teenage engineering line up, and crashes/bugs way too often. I still love my OP-Z tho. I’ve never had bug issues with my pocket operators. Anyways I think some of the pocket operators do a really nice job of fleshing out some of the features that are definitely lacking or are pretty weak on the op-z. For instance, sampling on the z kinda sucks: it is unpredictabley kind of latent sometimes, and sample length is small. The biggest sampling issue is that you can only have 1 sample per track, so if I’m recording into a drum track and I wanted to record a sample per key to play some interesting found percussion type shit I’d have to first make a recording of all those sounds together and record them in. That’s fine and all, but for sample packs I have already together on my computer I can just drop em in Via file transfer. It really feels like to me the point of having a recording sampler is to be able to record multiple samples together. But then comes in the po-33, which is essentially a pocket sized fully fleshed sampler, which really expands what I can make on the z.

As others have stated, the speaker stand malfunction and the complete lack of actual functionality (unless you want a glorified Bluetooth speaker/radio) made this the best review I've been able to find. I was intrigued because of the tape function and how I could incorporate that into my music production, but it's clear they didn't make this speaker to be used as a real piece of equipment. This honest and "uncut' review setup would be a refreshing and much needed service for those of us in the music production community. The sheer amount of paid reviews and sponsorships these days make it extremely hard to find equipment that may not be "industry standard". Unless you have the money to throw around and try a new thing whenever you want. Subscribed and hoping to see more!

@benjaminmangum2 жыл бұрын
@@voop00p to be fair, something that costs about $700 and doesn't come with speaker grills built into the assembly shouldn't fall over from a button push regardless of if it's stand is fully torqued under it or not. The utility aspect of this thing is laughable, They didn't make it for someone who actually plans to use it for sampling or making music, and they didn't make it for someone who listens to music either. It's built for the Teenage Engineering fanboy club that thinks it's some miracle of engineering from my standpoint. If I wanted to listen to music at home, I'd just use my studio monitors or my Atmos system. If I wanted to go out and bring music with me, I'd use something that doesn't freak out and fall if I push a button. It's $700, you can get a h*** of a lot more practical and useful gear for the same price. Maybe it's just me. (This thing pisses me off so immensely, it's on every Instagram ad I've seen in my feed for the last month. Excuse my frustration.😂)

@joshraab68083 жыл бұрын
Correct, no AUX. I think what confuses people is that people want TE to make devices that are super easy to bring into ableton or use for producing tracks, but that's not what they make. It's like being mad because your vespa doesn't have a big trunk or can't off road. Their devices are barely for musicians, they are for people who are just looking for a casual portal of some kind into music making. I think it's fun and juvenile, as implied by the name of the company. But yes. .. magic is probably an overstatement. They should have just called it the Fun Radio.

Adding these would have justified the cost without it's just a toy recorder thing.

I stopped by to see what the OD4 was all about with your ‘review’. Sorry, but I’m not quite sure what your overall message was with this video as you seem reluctant to give the product a fair review ? Granted it’s VERY expensive as is a lot it TE products, which is one of the reasons I stopped by (and to essentially see what it’s all about) but a review should surely be based an impartial assessment of the product’s features and specifications ‘claimed’ by the manufacturer, rather than an obvious bias from the start ? I take it you don’t like the product, but where were the pros/cons, reasons, rationales, etc, etc, etc ?
