For those thinking this ship is based on the Edmund Fitzgerald; listen up. This style of ship layout was common for Great Lake Freighters during the time period. A major difference is that the Edmund Fitzgerald had a chart room attached to the back of the pilothouse so the crew could access charts without leaving the pilothouse. This ship doesn't. And yes, John A. France was a REAL Great Lakes ship, built in 1960

It is a dry bulk carrier. It looks like it may be based on the Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank in the great lakes

Not quite correct. The Edmund Fitzgerald was a base design commonly used around that time for Lake Freighters. The Fitzgerald had a chart room attached to the back of the pilothouse that let the crew access it without leaving the pilothouse. This ship doesn't.

Probably the first time I've ever seen a lake freighter carrying something other than ore or Christmas trees and I'm not going to lie You're already taking a ship design that's kind of known for not being the best and heavy weather sometimes known for being a little too with top-heavy and just making it more top-heavy
